oho Posted November 4, 2017 Posted November 4, 2017 Very often the engine of my Yak just stops, often after a fight on the return to base. There is no indication (at least I dont see it) before (like stutters or oil in the Me109) and in the specification a cant see a hint what is the maximum allowed temperature. In a youtube tutorial it is said, that I can run at max prop pitch and max throttle almost unlimited, but also if I fly slowly this shut down happens - and these are no long sorties - the fuel tanks left and right are both on maximum indication on the wings, so still 160 l left. Can someone help me?
Sketch Posted November 4, 2017 Posted November 4, 2017 Most likely you don't have water and/or oil raditors opened up. You want to keep temps arouns 95c to 100c, if memory serves me right.
dburne Posted November 4, 2017 Posted November 4, 2017 I have logged many hours now in the Yak -1 , always returning to base after a successful mission, and can't say that has happened to me yet, I manually shut down the engine. I do manage my rads to keep temps up close 100c or little less. When on approach for landing I have both rads fully closed as obviously temps drop at that point.
216th_Jordan Posted November 4, 2017 Posted November 4, 2017 (edited) Yak has Oil and Water radiators, opened both? If your engine is damaged look at the engine RPM gauge, if it is jumping you have got to be careful and find a setting where the jumps are the least. Edited November 4, 2017 by 216th_Jordan
LLv24_SukkaVR Posted November 4, 2017 Posted November 4, 2017 Why is it that my Yak-1 tanks show always full, even after a long sortie? Also P-40 shows wingtanks are full and fuselage tank empty, no matter if i have chosen 100% or 50% fuel. And yes, im in level flight when i check the gauges, if it matters. In other aircraft fuel gauges works just fine.

In other aircraft fuel gauges works just fine. You can carry more fuel than what the instruments show. IIRC the gauge only show up to 80L of fuel on each wing, but you can carry a lot more on the Yak. The P40 has 3 gauges for the fuel, one on the front panel on two on the floor, maybe you are confusing one with another ? Also iirc the P40 didnt have wing tanks.
56RAF_Roblex Posted November 5, 2017 Posted November 5, 2017 (edited) Just gone on and checked. My P40 showed the fuselage tank as 'F' ie full (50gallons?) and the wing reserves 25 gallons and the main wing tanks about 42 gallons. It starts showing zero but as soon as you ask to start the engine the gauge gets turned on and shows a full tank. Tried 50% fuel and it showed main tank empty and about 34 gallons in wing plus 25 gallons in reserve for a total of 59 gallons. As the game says 50% fuel is 280 litres then that would seem to show the gauges are in UK gallons (unless the reserve tanks hold a lot more than the indicated 25 gallons). Not sure why the main wing tanks never show 50 gallons though I do notice from the pilots notes that you are expected to use 8-15 gallons warming up and taxiiing. Even when you select 'Start Parked' the engine has been pre-warmed so that might explain it. EDIT: The diagram I posted later says the main wing tank capacity is 42 Imperial Gallons and Reserve is 29 so obviously one gauge has spare capacity and one gauge cannot show the full amount :-). curiousGamblerr Posted November 5, 2017 Posted November 5, 2017 Wrong It literally says "Wing ... Tank" on the image you posted.
6./ZG26_Klaus_Mann Posted November 5, 2017 Posted November 5, 2017 It literally says "Wing ... Tank" on the image you posted. You said: 2 Wing Tanks per Wing. However, it only has a Forward and a Center Wing Tank, centrally located under the Cockpit. So not 4 but 2 Tanks + Range Extender behind the Cockpit.
56RAF_Roblex Posted November 5, 2017 Posted November 5, 2017 An easy mistake to make but Klaus is correct. See this diagram and look at items 132 & 134. 1

The perspective of that image could be better, it looks like the tanks could be in the wing root, and would be doubled on the other side, but now that you explain it I can also see it being under the cockpit. Reminds me of all the times in game I'm wondering if a plane is coming towards me or going away, gotta love simulated depth in 2D. Anyway, for the record, I didn't say anything originally. I don't know crap about the P-40, was just looking at your picture. Edited November 5, 2017 by 19//curiousGamblerr
LLv24_SukkaVR Posted November 5, 2017 Posted November 5, 2017 Didnt notice that gauge near the seat. Thanks!
56RAF_Roblex Posted November 5, 2017 Posted November 5, 2017 Didnt notice that gauge near the seat. Thanks! That does not explain why you thought the fuselage gauge showed empty with 100% fuel. I have to assume you got confused and looked at it when you only had 50% fuel.
indiaciki Posted November 13, 2017 Posted November 13, 2017 back to the yak1: 438 l of fuil - flly at near max power... you have about 20min flying time. i lost 2 yaks in MP on short missions because i burnt all fuel.
6./ZG26_Klaus_Mann Posted November 13, 2017 Posted November 13, 2017 The P-40 truly is a Counterpiece to the 110. A Single Engine Destroyer/Medium Range Escort.
