polisheagle1939 Posted November 2, 2017 Posted November 2, 2017 (edited) Hello all first time posting. I decided to get Il-2 Moscow last week because of the sale and I have been very happy. I played Rise of Flight a couple years ago online and really enjoyed it so I would like to try Il-2 multiplayer. Right know I am learning the planes. I was wondering if there is a "typical" altitude range that online battles are being fought or are they all over the place? Edited November 2, 2017 by polisheagle1939
Field-Ops Posted November 2, 2017 Posted November 2, 2017 In my experience its usually been at the 2-3km range. 4k if people are really fighting for that altitude. 5km and up you wont find much action. It is there but few people venture there. Sure youl find fights on the deck but generally the higher you go the more the opponents you meet will know what they are doing.
Daff Posted November 2, 2017 Posted November 2, 2017 It all varies. People on the deck ground attacking, planes up high trying to provide cover. It all varies. People on the deck ground attacking, planes up high trying to provide cover.
Finkeren Posted November 2, 2017 Posted November 2, 2017 The overall range of altitudes seems plausible for the Eastern Front in WW2, but far too much of the fighting takes place right down on the deck.
150GCT_Veltro Posted November 2, 2017 Posted November 2, 2017 (edited) This is a very good question, "Wings of Liberty" docet. Stay at 3K, this is a good compromise if you fly Luftwaffe. Edited November 2, 2017 by 150GCT_Veltro
Herne Posted November 2, 2017 Posted November 2, 2017 if you are trying to get a feel for the flight envelopes, then I recommend you try the berloga server. Pick red / blue and choose a plane and enjoy air starts with some fairly instant furball action. It can give some valuable lessons in both offensive and defensive flying, which would otherwise take hours to acquire. Have Fun !!

No matter what altitude the fight started in IL2-46 online, it always ended up on the deck. I'd stay high, dive steep, smoke someone, and get back in the clouds. Then they'd invariable complain about how easy it is to "boom & zoom". As opposed to a dozen people turning & burning like a swarm of bees 100 meters off the ground.
