katdog5 Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 (edited) I ran a performance test on my ancient OCZ Agility 3 SSD 120GB . (Performance test= 2227) 63 percentile. been a while since I bought eh. Quick question for those in the know re ssd drives with this sim in VR. Should I upgrade to a NVME SSD 950 256GB. (Performance test= 7563) only $120 ....or does it not matter that much? Will I just loader faster, see some minimal gain, or do you think I will def see some easily noticeable performance gain? $120 not terrible thanks in advance Edited November 1, 2017 by katdog5
ICDP Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 To be honest any decent SSD is more than enough for gaming use. Once the game is loaded the SSD has no more use and even a game uses a caching system it uses routines to ensure nothing needs to be read directly from a HD, but from system RAM instead. You only see a benefit on your OS drive, or if you move a lot of data.
BeastyBaiter Posted November 2, 2017 Posted November 2, 2017 Agreed, I have a Samsung 960 Evo 500GB as my main drive. Passmark score on my system shows that drive at 15,550. It has no impact on FPS compared to a normal HDD or SSD. It does improve load times though as well as file transfer times. Read speed is about 6x that of a normal SATA SSD and write speed is about 4x as fast. So it does have its uses, but in game FPS isn't one of them.
