mpmo Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 and the performance is horrible, even when i press H. Why is this black borders issue not fixed? im using a very thin foam pad btw. It's as if the FOV was designed for 90 degrees, so i'm seeing black borders for some reason.. HELP? im afraid i have to refund on steam if this won't get resolved, please fix this
Beazil Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 What on earth are you talking about? I'm running a vive and don't understand what "black borders" you are referring to. I'm glad you are using a thin pad. I assume you are talking about the pad surrounding the goggles.... I have no idea why that would be relevant.... But anyway... The fov is adjustable to a degree. You can zoom out or in depending on how you have your keys/controls set up. And what makes you think your threat to ask for a refund would somehow spur the developers to drop what they are doing to deal with what may very well be user error? Slow down. Use plain language and explain yourself better. Lets see if the community can help you fix your issue. Just stop with the threats. Friendly tip. Hope it helps.
scrapmetal Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 This is the first I've ever heard of black borders with the Vive. I use a 11mm face pad and can see the borders of the physical screens, but no black borders. Is this an issue that has arisen in the last couple of days? Drivers?
Beazil Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 Also, we don't know your system. I assume you meet the minimum specs for VR. I know accross three monitors my framerate is ~140 fps. That's 5760 x 1080 plus bevel correction. That's a lot of pixels. When I use the Vive my fps drops to between 35 and 89, depending on altitude, and whether or not I have the HUD enabled. Which must be what you meant about pressing H... I'm running a 2600k at 4.5 ghz with 32 gigs of ram and a 1070. Point is, while not cutting edge, my system still runs almost everything well. VR performance still suffers though. If you are running a lower spec system than I am, I'm not surprised you might have some performance issues. This isn't the fault of the developer; all of us experience a trade off in performance when going from monitors to VR. It will get more pronounced when the next gen headsets come out with higher resolutions. You've tried reducing your graphics to the lowest possible settings too right? Just to see what you can get as far as fps, and working up from there?
Bobflex Posted November 2, 2017 Posted November 2, 2017 For what it's worth I'm having the exact same issue in my Vive. I have a GTX1080 and i5 6600k @4.7GHz, playing in singleplayer I stick around 90fps with medium-ish settings. It feels like the game window isn't filling the Vive's screens all the way is the best way to describe it, so you get what looks like black bars on the screens. I've seen a handful of other people mention having the same issue on reddit as well.
coconut Posted November 2, 2017 Posted November 2, 2017 What do your or_ settings look like (look in data/startup.cfg)? Here are mine, for a Rift or_enable = 1 or_height = 1600 or_hud_rad = 1.0000 or_hud_size = 0.8 or_ipd = 0.06263 or_lens_offs = 1.0000 or_width = 1344 Compare with a Vive owner who doesn't have the problem, and it should help confirm if there is something wrong. Note that you can't change these values in the file, it won't have any effect. Only way to affect these is to try different versions and configs of SteamVR.
scrapmetal Posted November 2, 2017 Posted November 2, 2017 (edited) I can confirm that I cannot see any black bars in the Vive. These are my settings. or_enable = 1 or_height = 2492 or_hud_rad = 1.50000 or_hud_size = 0.75000 or_ipd = 0.06020 or_width = 1850 I7 6700K and GTX1080Ti with 387.92 drivers. Bobflex Posted November 2, 2017 Posted November 2, 2017 I can confirm that I cannot see any black bars in the Vive. So these are my or settings, as a Vive owner that does see black bars. or_enable = 1 or_height = 2058 or_hud_rad = 1.50000 or_hud_size = 0.75000 or_ipd = 0.06540 or_width = 1528 My height and width definitely don't look to be as much as they should be compared to yours, however, I went ahead and changed my width and height to match yours and set the file to read only to make sure it didn't get reverted, and I still see black bars while in an aircraft.
coconut Posted November 2, 2017 Posted November 2, 2017 The ratio is the same, his values are higher because his pixel density is higher.
Bobflex Posted November 3, 2017 Posted November 3, 2017 Makes sense, still doesn't help the black bar issue though.
Beazil Posted November 3, 2017 Posted November 3, 2017 Odd. I've tried the different config on my vive and have no black bars at all.
roadrunner_ak_uk Posted November 14, 2017 Posted November 14, 2017 (edited) not a troll, i had the exact same issue... refunded via steam as it was giving me a headache becuase of it... better example here: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/29856-openvr-vive-not-rendering-full-display-area/ i'll bet the mask isnt applying correctly for everyone, & people with differing IPD's dont see the issue Edited November 14, 2017 by roadrunner_ak_uk
katdog5 Posted November 14, 2017 Posted November 14, 2017 I would try a fresh reinstall ...delete everything also what font are you using to communicate. insane block sarif ?
roadrunner_ak_uk Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 I would try a fresh reinstall ...delete everything also what font are you using to communicate. insane block sarif ? tried that, its a game rendering issue... notice that you are using a rift, probably uses a different rendering mask. font is default....
OrLoK Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 What resolution are you running?, anything unusual about your real life monitor setup? Super ultra wide/tall monitors etc?
RedMedicine Posted November 18, 2017 Posted November 18, 2017 I have the same problem, and I guarantee anyone else using a Vive does as well. It's just more noticeable to some due to variations in IPD. Basically, the window isn't rendering the full FOV of the Vive, and stops short, thus making the black bars you see in the mirrored display visible within the headset.
Nammi-namm Posted April 5, 2018 Posted April 5, 2018 (edited) I've had this problem since the game first got proper VR support. I've been putting off playing the game so long hoping it'll be fixed. But here is a nice illustration of what I have happen. in the side of my left eye I see the border, almost like I'm wearing a medival viking helmet with a bit of metal going down between my eyes, but its only visible from my left eye, not my right, it gives me a headache after flying for a while. and yes I am using the Vive.
