PWCG 3.0 Alpha Release 1 Ready: need testers

PM me if you are interested in testing PWCG 3.0.  This is an Alpha build 1 - the first time this code has been exposed to the real world.  Testing is appreciated, trying different squadrons, mission types, planes and maps.

Quick notes:

1. back up your current PWCG directory or rename PWCGCampaign to something else before unzipping.

2. New campaigns are required.  I have working conversion code to go from 2.1.2 to 3.0 but it is not yet built into the PWCG, so 3.0 cannot currently read a 2.1.2 campaign.

BTW: since sending download links to Panther and Cpt. Sparrow I have uploaded a new zip file.  Same code, but I make package unzip to PWCGCampaignAlpha so 2.1.2 and 3.0 Alpha can live side by side.

Not exactly ff to an auspicious start here.  Looks like the upload failed.  I will correct hat and post here when the new upload is available.  Definitely tonight.

So, still OK to test with the earlier one if we don't need to have the alpha co-exist with 2.1.2, or do we need to get the new one or move the alpha to its own renamed folder?

The content is the same, only the target folder is different.  Only you and Cpt. Sparrow downloaded the zip that goes to PWCGCampaign.  Everybody else got the one that unzips to PWCGCampaignAlpha.  Your call as to whether you want to blow away PWCG 2.1.2, or rename the 2.1.2 folder, or download the alpha again.  I would not advise unzipping to the 2.1.2 folder.  It would work (I think) but it would be a mess.

Got the new file and made a I./JG52 campaign starting 1.3.1943 in Kuban. Simple config didn`t work, I got error message when trying to change density settings.

In the first mission scenery looked blue, maybe something wrong with the weather settings. And all planes were flying without pilots.

Didn't send a PM because I always get an error message.

 

Now that I'm in a position to grab more stick time I'd be happy to test 3.0A.

 

I did some testing of PWCG BOS on the first release too.

I did start a Bf-110G2 career in II./ZG26 based in Myshako, Kuban map. Career start date is 1.3.1943. Intelligence map shows misplaced front line and wrong map selection on the right upper corner:

Hi testers,

My first tests

Well I renamed my PWCG 2.1.2 and could then unzipped 3.0 into the folder 1C Game Studios/Il-2 .

Opening PWCG 3.0 worked fine

I selected all planes and notices that HS 129 B2 is missing; I mean the name is in PWCG but no icon above.

As Zami I have an error log when I try to change the density of planes in settings from low to medium.

I opened a carreer as spit pilot stationed in Holmskaya on Kuban map.

When the mission is loaded all my screen has a blue steel color. I already had that problem. It's possible to fix it by loading the mission into the editor then choose atmosphere options and set clouds to 0 and then save but of course it takes time to fix it manually.

No pilot into the cockpits of Ai planes but I remember that probleme did already exist in BOS.

Started up PWCG alpha - had to get past the Windows UAC (or whatever it is) warning me about running it, but after that it seemed to start up OK.  Selected all planes owned, then clicked on the "Skin Analysis" button and it threw off the error message below:

[EDIT] - restarted PWCG alpha - created a campaign for Bf-110 E2 on Moscow map for November 1941.  I tried changing the ground unit density to "high" in simple config, and it threw off the same error message above - the error log is attached below:

[EDIT] - restarted PWCG and my Bf-110 E2 campaign.  The intel info and map screens worked OK, but the Skin Management screen did not display any of the available skins, even when "loose" was selected.  Also, generating and accepting the mission seemed to take an unusually long time (so long that I thought it had hung, but I switched away and came back a few minutes later and it had finished those processes - although I am still getting the same spurious message I got with 2.1.2 during the "accept mission" process about mission logging not being enabled, even though it is already enabled).  I'll fly the mission later this afternoon and see how it goes.

Got the skin analysis problem fixed.  There are no configured skins in BoX anyway, but even so, it should tell you that in a nice way.  Also fixed the error reported on SImple config.

I have a big problem of slowness in the creation of a mission..I must wait at least 5 minutes .. idem after clicking on accept mission.

On departure from a mission in September 1942 with the 27th IAP, on Erzovka aerodrome, the bunkers are in winter, all white as well as other objects such as parking alveoli

Had the same problems as others.

1.No skin selection, not seeing any skins I have for P40 for example.

2.The GUI was taking so long to create a mission that i thought it was locked up and restarted.

3. In game, the mission description would not load for more than 10 mins. I was in offline mode. I restarted BOX and changed to online mode

    and it loaded fine. I can't remember, do we have to be online to use PWCG?

4. I ran an Attack mission and had ground kills. In AAR there is no ground claim? I think this normal ? Maybe you can add this later?

 

I hate to even ask this, but well, How do you know what map you are creating your Career on? I must be missing something, unless you

just have to find the name of the airbase you are assigned to on the actual map? Edit: Found Map selection under PWCG Information. Maybe relabel this PWCG Map Information, to be more clear?

Extremely slow loading mission, map screen, briefing screen and slow to accept mission. I assume this is because Kuban is such a big map?

I start game and load mission, the picture shows on the loading screen with progress bar at the bottom and when bar is full the screen goes black. When I cntrl,alt,delete to start task manager, BOX is not responding and there is object not defined under applications tab. When I end process either of these it ends the process for both, so they are tied together as an error. I am thinking maybe the HS129 is not added into PWCG correctly. In the plane choice menu the HS129 B2s does not have a picture, only the text line. I own all planes. Error log reattached for my campaigns.

Switch has been kind enough to set up a bug reporting system.  Link below.  Works much better than posting into a message board.  You can follow the progress of the bugs that you report and also see if your issue has already been reported.

- Seen this one too.  You do not have to be offline to load a PWCG mission,.  No idea what is happening as this is internal to the game.

- This is intended.  There is no ground kill claim.  That is done automatically.

Appreciate the testing done so far.  Six bugs reported.  I have already fixed five of them.  I will push Alpha version 2 tomorrow.

Flew the first mission in my Bf-110 E2 campaign - everything appeared to work fine.  We didn't encounter any action/enemy aircraft during the patrol mission, so there wasn't much to say in the AAR portion, but all parts of the process seemed to work OK.  Went on to generate the second mission, and changed my wingman on the pilot selection screen, and everything seemed to be OK.

 

Will start a new Russian campaign on the Stalingrad map next to see how things go.

It's already there with respect to RoF.  The issue at the moment is that BoS does not support coop.  If BoS is implemented the same way it will just work.  If BoS implements coop differently then it will be a TBD as to whether it can be done.

PWCG Alpha is closed and Beta is open.  See the beta thread for the download link.  The beta release corrects all bugs reported to date.  Thanks to all who are testing and please continue if you have the time and inclination to do so.

 

Switch: if you can leave https://trello.com/i...0-bug-reporting open I would appreciate it.  It has helped with the bug tracking process and I am sure that there will be findings in Beta too.
