SCG_Fenris_Wolf Posted October 31, 2017 Posted October 31, 2017 (edited) Hi, Does anyone have a "Delid Die Mate 2" to sell or for me to borrow, so I can behead my i7 7700k? It's important for VR performance in IL-2. I have been trying to get one in Germany for 2 weeks now, but unavailable. I understand some want theirs to stay in the vitrine, hence I will send it back if needed and pay both shippings. Please PM me if you have one. I am located in central Europe. Best regards! Remontti Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 This Finnish store seems to have them in stock https://www.jimms.fi/en/Product/Show/127194/fsd8-019/n-a-der8auer-delid-die-mate-2
A_radek Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 Fenris just a heads up. Though some of the better TIMs have plenty better heat conductivity than the stock intel goo, I've heard they also degrade faster. So once you've gone there keep an eye on temps every few months. I seem to have been lucky as in getting a sample without too much space between lid and dice.
TG-55Panthercules Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 Hey Fenris - I finally decided to go ahead and give it a try, and delidded my 7700K yesterday. Process with the Rockit 88 tool was super simple, just like the videos I saw on you-tube. I let the thing cure/set up overnight, and re-installed it this afternoon. Got a momentary scare when it threw me into BIOS on the initial boot-up, with a message saying a new CPU had been installed. But I checked everything and all the BIOS settings seemed to be still correct, so I went ahead and exited and completed the startup process. Everything seemed to start up just fine. I ran the ROG Realbench stress test for 10 minutes, and temps hovered in the low 70s with a max of 75 (this is the one I had to stop right away before because temps were hitting the mid-90s). Checked with MSI afterburner during some gaming sessions, and temps were mostly in the mid-to-high 50s (whereas they were mid-low 70s before). So, it looks like I gained about 15-20 degrees, pretty much in line with what was being reported in the you-tube videos and articles I saw during my research. Hardest part was doing without the PC for the 24 hours, and even that was actually refreshing for a change. Overall, a very positive experience. PM me if you still want to think about using my Rockit 88 tool kit on your CPU.
SCG_Fenris_Wolf Posted November 8, 2017 Author Posted November 8, 2017 (edited) Very interesting, and congratulations on your first successful beheading! #nojihad #nofrench #sacrebleu! I concluded to order the "Dr. Delid" tool based on the assumption that I may have to reapply paste every year, as radek mentioned. I'd urge you to do so as well, based on user reports. Like with changing oil, filters and tires of the car, it pays keeping the tools at home I guess, hence you might want to put yours up in a vitrine. Next week I'll be able to update the benchmarking in chiliwili's thread as well Edited November 8, 2017 by 2./JG51_Fenris_Wolf
dburne Posted November 8, 2017 Posted November 8, 2017 I wonder if the 8700K is going to suffer from the same higher temp issues as well. I will likely be doing a new build sometime in 2018, maybe latter part.

I saw some conflicting info during my research as to whether the Conductonaut or other liquid metal TIMs actually degrade over time or not. Hope not, but probably a good idea to hang onto the tool kit just in case.
