Jade_Monkey Posted October 29, 2017 Posted October 29, 2017 For any fan of the saga, the last one "Origins" is actually really good. With the exception of Black Flag, they I didn't really enjoy any of them since Brotherhood. I was done with Ubisoft and I actually didn't plan on getting Origins. They have finally listened to all the complaints, and imo, copied the Witcher 3 (which is a great thing). The gameplay is fluid, combat is fun, the plot is interesting, they streamlined the mechanics, the world is absolutely gorgeous and alive (no zombie npcs). It's polished, and definitely not broken like the previous releases. I'd say it has a really good chance to be game of the year. It's close to being a 10/10 for me although im still pretty early in the game.
Gambit21 Posted October 29, 2017 Posted October 29, 2017 Good question Monkey...can you play in 'stealth' mode, or is it a kill-fest? I loved the original Thief, and Thief 2. I've never played any of the Assassin's Creed games 1
curiousGamblerr Posted October 30, 2017 Posted October 30, 2017 I loved the first few but eventually the whole series just got really repetitive. I have a friend who's been raving about this one, maybe I'll give it a shot, especially if it goes on sale or something. Also, Fink, what joke am I missing? Or are you just messing with us? Because it's definitely Assassin's according to the official site: https://assassinscreed.ubisoft.com/game/en-us/media-home/index-v2.aspx?ncid=22-3839-None--1-pdsc-6-11-FY18_US_ACO_ANN_SEM-ACO_Adwords_MULTI_UWT_AWA_BrandTitle_Text_TextAd_ClickTrackerOnly_Keyword_BrandTitle-17-2-5-0617-6-1-UBISOFT_ACO_Text_Text_LearnMore_HomePage_EN_BrandTitle--ID517223839361111106201718188732518-&media=xbox
Gambit21 Posted October 30, 2017 Posted October 30, 2017 It's called Assassins Creed. , Yeah but in my head an assassin is sneaky and unseen until he gets to his target.
curiousGamblerr Posted October 30, 2017 Posted October 30, 2017 Oh lol I'm dumb, thought that was a grammar discussion, love me some grammar jokes... But yeah, someone that kills 100 people on their way up a tower to their actual target isn't exactly my idea of an assassin either, Gambit 1
Jade_Monkey Posted October 30, 2017 Author Posted October 30, 2017 Raaaid, the clue is in the name. You can probably do about 60% of it in stealth, maybe more but eventually you have to fight. If you like pure stealth i recommend the Dishonored series, Thief (i didnt like the last one), or perhaps Hitman (but limiting yourself to the accidents and stealth kills). Gambit, this one feels a bit like the witcher 3. If you are not familiar, its an open world quest based RPG. The world does feel very alive with organic activities taking place (bandits attacking people, animals attacking other animals, people doing their thing), day/night cycle, and absolutely gorgeous landscape. I dont think it's for everyone but if you enjoyed the first two AC games this one is a must.
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted October 30, 2017 Posted October 30, 2017 Bit of a dumb question and but these were the latest RPGs I've played so theyre the only reference I have: how does it compare to Dragon Age: Inquisition and FF:XV?
curiousGamblerr Posted October 30, 2017 Posted October 30, 2017 Jade, Does Origins have any of those segments where you play in present day? If there is one thing I hate about the series, it's the whole memories-in-DNA thing, aka the basis of the whole plot I wish it was just a series about assassins and ditched that whole piece, but it's easily ignored as long as they don't make you play as some modern-day assassin descendant like a few of the titles. Thanks!
Jade_Monkey Posted October 30, 2017 Author Posted October 30, 2017 Yeah they have that, but they smartened up and now let you skip most of it and it takes less than a minute to get back into the game. I HATED those segments too. Way to break immersion. 1
curiousGamblerr Posted October 31, 2017 Posted October 31, 2017 Well I guess it could be worse. That's not so bad. I'm intrigued, I'll have to check out some gameplay vids.

This is why I rarely purchase and get into a vidoe game anymore...they just don't make the game I want very often. The Batman/Arkham games were fantastic. Stealth focused... jumping out to pummel someone when you felt like it - that's my speed. I'm more likely to reinstall one of those then buy anything currently out, our released in the foreseeable future. Fond memories of the original Thief and the 2nd one...after that....PFfffttt!!!
Field-Ops Posted October 31, 2017 Posted October 31, 2017 I really liked the first and second Assassins Creeds. I couldnt take much more of the same with the newer titles being the same thing like some COD clone. I went back to Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory to get my stealth game on, which is still my favorite stealth game to date.

Guest deleted@1562 Posted October 31, 2017 Posted October 31, 2017 As I actually enjoyed every title in the AC series, I'll be getting this for my ps4 eventually. Too many titles on the play list atm.
Feathered_IV Posted October 31, 2017 Posted October 31, 2017 Worthabuy usually worthaloook. Cheers, I just had a watch of the first 8 minutes. Does anyone know what time period it supposed to represent? There's such an abundance of Roman architecture, ships and whatnot. I'd kind of hoped for something more along the lines of the 18th dynasty.

Ptolemaic - ie Hellenistic, so post Alexander's conquest and before the Romans took over. ie Probably somewhere in the middle between between 332 BC and 30 BC. So much of what you think looks Roman could well be a good representation of late Greek architecture and so on, since the Romans were still just copying everyone at this point. (Just a guess on my part, have not played it myself, I prefer sandbox type games, but I might succumb if it gets discounted.) 1
Jade_Monkey Posted October 31, 2017 Author Posted October 31, 2017 It starts during the reign of Ptolemy XII, Cleopatra's brother. You take Cleopatra's side and help her gain power. I barely met her so no idea of the plot yet. I believe seeing some DLC announcement about Julius Caesar going to Egypt. So late I B.C.. 1
Feathered_IV Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 Ah I see. I guess there’s more opportunity for intrigue at that stage when Egypt was a real melting pot of empires and cultures. The warships threw me a bit as they look much more clunky than the images I’m used to seeing. They reminded me more of Minecraft than Greece or Rome. The papyrus jet ski gave me a chuckle however.
Trooper117 Posted November 2, 2017 Posted November 2, 2017 I really enjoyed the first AC set in the medieval period, but haven't really got into any of the others I'm afraid... I just might be tempted with this one.
Gambit21 Posted November 3, 2017 Posted November 3, 2017 New Batman coming but we're going to have to wait a while - they're a bit behind.
coconut Posted November 3, 2017 Posted November 3, 2017 Recent reviews on steam are not good. Game seems OK, but the DRM and frame rate drops seem to be a problem. Anybody here with the game can shed some light on that?
Jade_Monkey Posted November 3, 2017 Author Posted November 3, 2017 hey i may go back to playing but tell me theres no conspiracy to desensitivize us and tell me a game i can no kill like thief or batman Dishonored Great game, you can choose the peaceful stealth path or violent path.
Jade_Monkey Posted November 3, 2017 Author Posted November 3, 2017 (edited) Recent reviews on steam are not good. Game seems OK, but the DRM and frame rate drops seem to be a problem. Anybody here with the game can shed some light on that? Its been a recent trend to bomb the reviews of games when "something" comes up. I find this very immature since these are not honest reviews. We hen you read them they all say it's a great game BUT they downvote to teach the devs a lesson. In this case someone said that the DRM was taking more resources than expected from the CPU. When the news broke out people started review bombing. Not before when apparently people had good reviews all over and nobody was complaining about performance. I'm starting to be a little sick of this, almost to the point where i wish they just removed the ability to review. They have managed to make a useful feature a tool for trolling. Uufflakke Posted November 3, 2017 Posted November 3, 2017 (Just a guess on my part, have not played it myself, I prefer sandbox type games, but I might succumb if it gets discounted.) I've encountered the expression 'sandbox game' rather often without knowing what it exactly means. Finally I took the effort to google it to see what it really means. And Assassin's Creed is entitled as a sandbox game on several websites including Wikipedia. So now I am even more confused.

Uufflakke Posted November 3, 2017 Posted November 3, 2017 "Inspired by historical events and characters, this work of fiction was designed, developed, and produces by a multicultural team of various beliefs, sexual orientation and gender identities." Welcome to 2017. Just say that the game is created by highly talented, skilled, creative and enthusiastic people. That is what is it about. Where they come from, their religion, with whom they want to sleep with or which toilet they use is not so relevant.
Finkeren Posted November 4, 2017 Posted November 4, 2017 (edited) "Inspired by historical events and characters, this work of fiction was designed, developed, and produces by a multicultural team of various beliefs, sexual orientation and gender identities." Welcome to 2017. Actually, welcome to 2007. That sentence has been there from the very beginning of the AC franchise. It was put in to calm down Western audiences, because the first game focused on a Muslim (Ismaili) protagonist killing primarilly Christian bad guys. Edit: Actually. I think the “gender identities” part is new, though I don’t see that it changes anything about the sentence. Edited November 4, 2017 by Finkeren

unreasonable Posted November 5, 2017 Posted November 5, 2017 I've encountered the expression 'sandbox game' rather often without knowing what it exactly means. Finally I took the effort to google it to see what it really means. And Assassin's Creed is entitled as a sandbox game on several websites including Wikipedia. So now I am even more confused. Perhaps it is a sandbox - after all it is set in Egypt. I think of a sandbox game as one in which you can ignore the "main quest"entirely if you wish and construct your own personality, story, motivations and tasks. The most obvious examples being the Elder scroll series, where you can, after the initial prologue, push off and do whatever you want. Other games are entirely linear - do this then do that is a set order, cannot proceed until you have killed the next boss, etc. Some like the Witcher series sit between. I very much doubt that this games offers remotely the same freedom as the Elder Scrolls games, so I suspect that calling it a sandbox is basically a blatant lie marketing decision.
Matt Posted November 5, 2017 Posted November 5, 2017 (edited) I like it overall, but the introduction was pretty short. But you basically get thrown into the game without knowing any backstory of the character (or i skipped some cutscenes by mistake) and it's not challenging whatsoever, atleast not for the first two hours i played it. You can basically sneak up to everyone and execute them easily and even if someone spots you, which is rare, the fights are super easy, even if you don't use any gadgets (poisened arrow etc.). For climbing you now really only need to hold two buttons down, they might've just made those segments into cutscenes. It wasn't really that difficult in earlier games, but now it's basically automatic with no way to fail. Also the inventory system with randomly picking up weapons and equipment and other loot feels completely out of place and unnecessary. Last AC i played was Black Flag, which is probably my favorite AC since AC2 (which is by far the best) and compared to all AC games up to Black Flag, i would probably rank Origins as fourth best. The gameplay and storytelling definately feels like they took many steps back. Technically it's working perfectly fine for me and graphics and sound are great. Graphic and HUD customizability is some of the best i've seen so far in any game. Overall, if want to get back or get into AC, i would currently suggest just picking up Black Flag if you don't own it yet and if you can live with the pirate setting, as it's still good technically for todays standard and much more engaging than Origins.
