I'd love to see an IL-4 at some point to complement but I do think the Pe-2 was the right way to go. It was by far more numerous and used than the IL-4 was and I think it highlights the differences in doctrine and that the VVS didn't have perfect analogues to what the Germans had but rather a different way of achieving some of the same stuff.

 

More on topic... the Ju52 should hopefully get its counterpart in the Li-2 depending on how that third party group pulls through. They are working on the Po-2 first according to Jason and then if that goes well then we'll see them doing the Li-2.

For clarity, I love the Peshka to bits and it suits my flying style much more. And if there was an Il-4 I'd probably still use the Peshka more often anyway.

I also understand why we got an earlier model of the Peshka in BoM and I don't begrudge the devs the decision to go for variants of existing assets in the interests of cost-effectiveness in an industry where we're told the profit margins are quite tight.

 

But I'm always keen on greater variety. And I've always loved the look of the SB-2, with the massive glazed done taking to the whole front of the aircraft. So in an ideal world we could have had both...

 

(Actually, let's not go down the rabbit-hole of what BoX would look like in an ideal world where money and time were no objects...)

Still hoping that maybe with a third party the devs can produce a kind of "Battle of Odessa" lite edition with the I-153 and a SB-2 at some point in the future as Collector Planes (the map would be free). That list could rapidly expand but given what we already have it could be an interesting scenario to add to the mix.

Hopefully the new plane guys will hit a home run with the Po-2 and they can make an I-153 and Brewster after the Li-2.

Totally. And the more aircraft we have the more likely it is that these gaps can be plugged with very little effort.

Add the eagerly-anticipated Hurricane for Murmansk, plus a G.50 and maybe Blenheim for the Finns. Could do a Cr.42 for the Hungarians, then we also have the beginnings of Malta. Or give the Finns a Fokker D.XXI and then the Netherlands get a look into the Pacific

FAA skins for Wildcat, and Catalina, Avenger and Corsair if we get the latter three and we have something to hunt U-boats with. Grey skies plus sea state five and friendly convoys is almost the Battle of the Atlantic...

 

The possibilities, as they say, are endless.
