Finished Blazing Steppes and now?

After having finished Ten days of Autumn a long time ago, I just finished Blazing Steppes.

Blazing Steppes is a scripted campaign a step above Ten days of Autumn. The environment is richer, missions more complex, with a higher number of active units, and the variety of missions was less monotonous that with Ten days of Autumn.

I had for sure more pleasure to play Blazing Steppes. It is unfortunate that your scores in the campaign have no impact on your pilot level.

Now if we look in absolute terms I remain disappointed of the quality of the campaigns, and this includes the BOS and BOM campaigns too. I would have imagined much more ground animation in the airfields from both sides. Airfields should be all active according to the occupant, and defended. The feeling of two major armies clashing, with tank battles and ground troops. That would make ground support missions more interesting than just hitting artillery units. Strafing animated airfields, etc. etc.. Missions more open ended, with more elements of surprise and with lasting effects from one mission to the other. I know that much has been already said and commented already.

I have created some small missions with the mission editor, and I agree that is a big work to do a professional  product to be sold. The mission editor is an excellent tool and has the potential for a professional product, and it is a pity that there is no clear development effort for this tool, like expanding the object libraries, animated objects, vehicles, and people etc...

I suppose that to find developers ready to invest months of time and money for such top class campaigns are not many if at all. Maybe it is the role of 1CGS to do this as a complementary product line to be sold like collector new planes. It is nice to have a large number of new planes and maps. But if there is no major top quality campaign then I feel that we miss the mark. And long after the planes have been all modeled and made available, the campaigns remain the only way to create continued and additional revenue from an already mature product.

You do know the career mode is coming in less than 2 months right?

Until then there is PWCG, which is absolutely fabulous and fully customizable down in the smallest details.

There are quite a few user made campaigns to play to hold you over until career mode.

Suggestions, grab Fritz Life, Alberts Life, StG 2 campaigns, plenty going on there.
