Bearcat Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Wow.. I just hope that we don't give that away like we have so many of the innovations we have come up with over the last 75 years.

Skoshi_Tiger Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 (edited) I've been following supercapacitors for few years now. Although they have a lot of long term potential the current issue is scaling the capacity to useable levels. I'll see if I can find the video but it was discussing making batteries for things like mobile phones, with maybe a 10th of the capacity of something like an iphone battery which wouldn't be an issue with the extremely short recharge times and technologies like inductive charging. At the moment I've got about a 3.6KW Photoelectric system on the roof. In the year or so that I've had it I've generated about 11 Mega Watts of power (equivalent to 11 tons of Carbon but summer is great when you don't have power bills!!!) One of the problems is until a technology like this comes along and develops enough to provide home storage it iis not finacially viable to go off grid. Lead acid batteries and their continual replacement take away any environmental benefit of doing so. All very interesting! Hmmm! Anyone tried to make one in their DVD burner yet????? Bearcat Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 I didn't realise you went to the university of manchester? No .. but I work for the company that invented digital photgraphy.. among other things.. and they are headquartered in the same city where another American company ... the one that invented the GUI and the mouse... also is based.. but the heads of these companies were both very shortsighted .. and both companies would be doing a heck of a lot better if someone with vision had been at the helm of both companies.. They are still competitors to a degree..
