=EXPEND=CG_Justin Posted October 17, 2017 Posted October 17, 2017 Can I get some recommendations for a new graphics card please? My max budget is $300 (US). I am currently running a GTX760 2Gb and prefer to stay with Nvidia. Also my CPU is AMD 8 core @4.0 each with 16 Gb of ram so my graphics card is definitely my bottleneck. Thanks in advance!
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted October 17, 2017 Posted October 17, 2017 Which AMD CPU is that model, out of curiosity? And what FPS are you getting in game in a standard situation?
Jade_Monkey Posted October 17, 2017 Posted October 17, 2017 They are saying Nvidia is launching a 1070Ti soon although it's rumored to be around $429. Just go with the best card that is within your budget. If you already decided the manufacturer then there arent many options based on budget. Sounds like the 1060 6GB variant should work for you at around $263 on amazon
=EXPEND=CG_Justin Posted October 17, 2017 Author Posted October 17, 2017 AMD 8350, and I get around 40-50fps standard but it dumps in high load situations. I am looking hard at this one. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487275
-TBC-AeroAce Posted October 17, 2017 Posted October 17, 2017 I have an 8350 and a 970 and im getting 30-60 fps im afraid u/we will need a better cpu to get some solid frames

-TBC-AeroAce Posted October 17, 2017 Posted October 17, 2017 (edited) No 8 core AMD FX 8350. I don't think it is up to the job no matter how much GPU power you throw at it. I have come to the opinion that I'm going to have to get a new i7 as AMD is just not up to it. Which sucks as that means a whole new pc. Long story straight trust me it is the 8350 which is the bottle neck. Maybe others get better results with one? Edited October 17, 2017 by AeroAce

My puny GTX760 2Gb has its fans screaming on more recent games. I don't think the 8350 is really that bad, my GTX760 on the other hand struggles to keep up with such low vram.
-TBC-AeroAce Posted October 17, 2017 Posted October 17, 2017 It is not that it is that bad it is that this game is not well optimised for AMD CPUs. The game can't use the cores very well. I get really high fps on all of my other games just not this one due to how il2 is

Drops to 40-50 down low with a lot of traffic or ground units. I run with ultra settings. Looks great with my GTX 1060 6GB GPU and 32 GB RAM. 2560x1080 Still, I plan to upgrade in the coming year. =WH=PangolinWranglin Posted October 17, 2017 Posted October 17, 2017 (edited) My 1060 is serving me fine, and isn't to expensive. I can easily sustain 30+ in a busy situation (60 when flying alone in empty skies), even with my aging AMD FX-6300 CPU. Edited October 17, 2017 by =VOE=PangolinWranglin
Mitthrawnuruodo Posted October 17, 2017 Posted October 17, 2017 The assumption that the CPU is not a bottleneck is incorrect. Although an upgraded graphics card will bring performance gains, the weak CPU will hold it back somewhat. Expensive upgrades for aging systems give rapidly diminishing returns. 1

I considered a GTX 1070 and a 1080 but decided that my current rig didn't justify the added expense. I am pleased with my GTX 1060 purchase. It's was the last upgrade for my current rig.

Inkophile Posted October 18, 2017 Posted October 18, 2017 The 1060 is indeed fully sufficient for the game, as long as you don't run VR at least. With an i5-2500K and 16GB RAM at 1333MHz (max for that CPU) my 1060 delivers 50-100 fps at HIGH settings (SSAO, HDR, shadows, mirrors and landscape detail maxed).
pilotpierre Posted October 18, 2017 Posted October 18, 2017 See sig, I am using the 1060 6Gb. I play on Ultra with FPS limited to 60 and it sits on that just fine.
SYN_Mike77 Posted October 18, 2017 Posted October 18, 2017 For an extra $100 you can move to the 1070. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127951&cm_re=gtx_1070-_-14-127-951-_-Product Thats what I am running and it is a dream.
Mitthrawnuruodo Posted October 18, 2017 Posted October 18, 2017 I would advise against pairing anything as expensive as a GTX 1070 with AMD FX processors. For only a slightly higher price, I suspect a balanced system build with a modern CPU such as i3-8350K and GTX 1050 Ti would generally yield better performance.
CanadaOne Posted October 18, 2017 Posted October 18, 2017 I just swapped out my GTX950 for an EVGA 1060 SC 3GB (Thank you Amazon 1 day delivery!) and the results are great. With the 950 I was often in the 30s and 40s (1080p) with settings maxed and just a bit of action going on. Sometimes into the 20s even. But with the 1060 it just sits at 60FPS (with dips to 59) no matter what I do. Settings are maxed, except for the grass, and it's just 60 all the time. I put 16 planes in the QMB and it just stays at 60. For a budget 1060, this card is sweet!
BeastyBaiter Posted October 19, 2017 Posted October 19, 2017 Given current GPU prices and your CPU, I recommend the GTX 1060 6GB. Anything beyond that is a waste of money as your CPU is not fast enough to take advantage. That said, both the the RX480 and GTX 1060 6GB can give a great framerate in BoS at both 1080p and 1440p.
=EXPEND=CG_Justin Posted October 19, 2017 Author Posted October 19, 2017 I took the plunge and purchased the EVGA 1060 6Gb that I linked to in my above post. It arrived within 24hrs, but sadly, that was 13:00 in the afternoon and I have to work tonight. As bad as I wanted to install it and give it a go, I simply had to lay down or I would have no rest for my shift. I cant wait for work to be over... 1

I have run EVGA graphics cards for many years, never had one fail me they have all performed very well.
=EXPEND=CG_Justin Posted October 19, 2017 Author Posted October 19, 2017 OK, so I made the wise choice. Not only does the 1060 fit better in my case (because I actually measured before purchase), but the performance boost is EXCELLENT!!! Solid 60fps in lone situations on WoL, and never dipped below 45fps in busy situations. Compared to what my very modest 760 was getting me before, it's like night and day. Without bench-marking any other games as of yet, I am VERY SATISFIED with my purchase. For slightly less than $300(US) I now have a good, competitive, mid range PC. I am running on ULTRA with grass at normal and shadows on HIGH, with mirrors disabled (because I have no use for them). I am also allowing NI to handle my AA and such. Super happy with this mid tier card. For anyone on a budget looking to upgrade from a 7series or lower, with decent CPU power, I HIGHLY recommend the EVGA GTX1060 6Gb! Thanks for all who chimed in and offered their advice, it is very much appreciated! o7 1

Afterthought it run better at High Settings. It did work on Max but could get some slowdowns at airfields or near big bomber formations. but overall performance was "satisfactory". Also my old 1050TI was overclocked what you should do also. Im using RX 580 now so cant give exact results but 1050TI is ok for this sim if you are in budget.
-EAGLE-Shifter Posted September 11, 2019 Posted September 11, 2019 (edited) Hi all, i have ASROCK Radeon RX 590 Phantom Gaming X 8G OC ? Procesor Intel Core i5-8400 desk ASUS H310M-K R2.0 ADATA XPG 8GB DDR4 3000MHz CL16 SPECTRIX D41, wolfram I am looking for better smoothing of horizon, visibility. Depending on the resolution of your display, you should be able to run most things at the highest level with that hardware.

Yes, i have on game mainly hires(shadow, clouds, etc, i send at night printscreen.)
LLv34_Flanker Posted September 11, 2019 Posted September 11, 2019 S! Grass is an useless FPS eating feature as you see it only in tanks or on taxi/runway. The popping in effect is not that nice to look at either. Same problem in all games really. I keep that on Normal. Medium shadows look good enough. Mirrors are OK even on simple, if need those. Visibility distance has an effect on FPS. Experiment with that to get best performance vs eyecandy result. HDR and SSAO eat FPS too, for an arguable gain in image quality.
LLv34_Flanker Posted September 12, 2019 Posted September 12, 2019 S! I would try altering a few settings Shifty. Listing them below. Shadows: medium Mirrors: simple Landscape filter: blurry Grass: normal Dynamic resolution: off Gamma: 0.9-1.0(no effect on FPS) 4k textures: on Otherwise you seem to have Ok settings.

Thanks, but a little poor setup right? I'm going to hight from ultra and it seems all ok, i have set landscape detail to max and landscape filter, full screen off. And its better. even with this setting, the game is smooth. The 4k textures settings are unnecessary if not 4k monitor right? Thanks Peter
LLv34_Flanker Posted September 12, 2019 Posted September 12, 2019 S! 4K has nothing to do with monitor, just the textures like skins etc. And seems to have very small impact in performance. So no harm having them on.
