Uriah Posted October 15, 2017 Posted October 15, 2017 Today I went here and was so very pleased with all the WWII war birds and even a good set of WWI birds. They even had a good collection of Soviet planes. militaryaviationmuseum.org 1
curiousGamblerr Posted October 15, 2017 Posted October 15, 2017 I'm in Richmond and have been meaning to check it out! Glad to hear good things.
Uriah Posted October 16, 2017 Author Posted October 16, 2017 In the spring they do an airshow of the WWII birds and in the fall they do the WWI birds which they did two weekends or so ago. They have to fly the ME 109 from the airport in Suffolk. The have three FW190s. One is a Dora. I think the most unusual thing is the recreation of the plane the Curtis company sold to the US military.
SYN_Mike77 Posted October 16, 2017 Posted October 16, 2017 I went in May of '17. Had reserved a ride in their bi plane trainer but high winds prevented flying that day. Despite that, it was a great day. Watched a Spitfire take off and do several passes of the grounds and then land. Beautiful!
Lensman Posted October 18, 2017 Posted October 18, 2017 Very interesting, some really nice aircraft. I'm lucky to live a few minutes from here: http://www.iwm.org.uk/visits/iwm-duxford/exhibitions and often have exotic machines over my house including Spitfires, a B17, 2 Lancasters (when the Canadians visited) and lots of P51s. A few years ago they had 26 Spitfires in the air simultaneously which was a sight to see.

You know the WWII birds are at the Chesterfield County airport this weekend. B-17, B-24, dual seat/control P-51. You can get a half-hour flight in the P-51 for $2,200.00, or a full hour for $3,200.00, yeah, like I have that kind of money floating around.

Aw man, looks like they leave tomorrow at noon and there's no after-work walk through times tonight, damn! I've seen those birds years ago and they were super cool, would have loved to check it out. Thanks for mentioning it! Here is the Chesterfield event page, for anyone else in the area. Second event down the page, "Wings of Freedom Tour": http://www.chesterfield.gov/airport.aspx?id=9371
