major_burns Posted October 14, 2017 Posted October 14, 2017 Interesting that a submerged sub in Battle of Stalingrad - Kuban map - has the same wake as a surfaced sub. So much for stealth. :-)
ShamrockOneFive Posted October 14, 2017 Posted October 14, 2017 I hadn't noticed that. Keep in mind... we're still in Early Access. Stuff will get better as time goes on though it doesn't hurt to sometimes mention these things.
Finkeren Posted October 14, 2017 Posted October 14, 2017 (edited) It's very clearly not perfect yet. During rough weather with high waves, you can see most or all of the submarine directly through the waves, making it look like the sub is bouncing on top of the water. Jade_Monkey Posted October 15, 2017 Posted October 15, 2017 I didnt even know subs can actually submerge in BoK.
migmadmarine Posted October 15, 2017 Posted October 15, 2017 Is it like in ROF, where the submerge but the para-scope is always up and leaving a small wake?
ACG_KaiLae Posted October 15, 2017 Posted October 15, 2017 making it look like the sub is bouncing on top of the water. This, by the way, is called broaching, and usually ends up with swearing, then the diving officer of the watch smacking the planesman and asking him wtf is he doing.

Definitely not broaching. The sub is beneath the waves, but from certain angles it is fully visible through the water.
Yogiflight Posted October 15, 2017 Posted October 15, 2017 I didnt even know subs can actually submerge in BoK. They can even shoot torpedoes, when submerged. However, hitting the target seems to be an issue, so far. But as mentioned already, it is still WIP.
ShamrockOneFive Posted October 15, 2017 Posted October 15, 2017 Is it like in ROF, where the submerge but the para-scope is always up and leaving a small wake? I think that's whats supposed to happen for sure. They certainly submerge and can attack. It's very very cool!
major_burns Posted October 15, 2017 Author Posted October 15, 2017 Its not a periscope wake. Its the wake of the whole ship, identical to the surfaced ship.
DD_Arthur Posted October 15, 2017 Posted October 15, 2017 Can you post a screenie? I've never seen a submerged sub in BoS.
major_burns Posted October 15, 2017 Author Posted October 15, 2017 Just set your waypoint to a negative height, like -30.
Uufflakke Posted October 15, 2017 Posted October 15, 2017 I didnt even know subs can actually submerge in BoK. Have a look here: 2
Jade_Monkey Posted October 15, 2017 Posted October 15, 2017 Just set your waypoint to a negative height, like -30. Thanks, that was my next question.
DD_Arthur Posted October 15, 2017 Posted October 15, 2017 Wow. That vid was fantastic! Didn't seem to be any problems in that example.
Beazil Posted October 15, 2017 Posted October 15, 2017 Wow. That vid was fantastic! Didn't seem to be any problems in that example. Exactly what I was thinking.
major_burns Posted October 15, 2017 Author Posted October 15, 2017 Have a look here: How did you do that? Both the submerge without a wake and the camera.
Uufflakke Posted October 15, 2017 Posted October 15, 2017 How did you do that? Both the submerge without a wake and the camera. The only thing I did is posting it. Better aks Hucky 0850 . He made that great video.
Jade_Monkey Posted October 15, 2017 Posted October 15, 2017 Its not a periscope wake. Its the wake of the whole ship, identical to the surfaced ship. It seems fine to me with a -10 height for the large Soviet sub:
Hucky Posted October 15, 2017 Posted October 15, 2017 It is a simple mission. I just wanted to see if the boat could dive.At the waypoints you can see the altitude or the altitude. the depth. But it can not dive deeper.
major_burns Posted October 16, 2017 Author Posted October 16, 2017 Still doesn't work for me. -10 for height and still get wakes with large sub even though I can't see the periscope. I have a pic to post but no place to put it.
Barnacles Posted October 16, 2017 Posted October 16, 2017 This, by the way, is called broaching, and usually ends up with swearing, then the diving officer of the watch smacking the planesman and asking him wtf is he doing. The planesman will then blame it on a salinity change or some such nonsense.
major_burns Posted October 16, 2017 Author Posted October 16, 2017 Here's my submerged (-10) large sub.
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted October 16, 2017 Posted October 16, 2017 Pretty odd, that. Interesting find though. What are your graphics settings, mrburns? Have you tested to see if this is observable across different presets? This can be done by recording a short track of the incident, then loading it under different graphics presets to see the results. Once you can narrow it down, then filing a bug report in the official format becomes easier
major_burns Posted October 16, 2017 Author Posted October 16, 2017 How could graphics presets effect the visible wake? Doesn't make sense. Where can one find the proper speeds for the ships and aircraft so they can be set properly in the editor?
76IAP-Black Posted October 16, 2017 Posted October 16, 2017 The only thin im missing in every flight sim, is transparent water, so you can see objects under the water. Even if you crash you plane, it will not dissapear right under the surface. Just a few meters visibility to spot the submerged subs at periscope depth, or see wracks of planes, crashed into a river or the sea, i think it could be done and would be cool in the future for the pacific
major_burns Posted October 17, 2017 Author Posted October 17, 2017 The large subs large wake was gone then I reduced the subs speed to 4km/hr. Anything higher caused the large wake. The small sub had a large wake even at 4 km/hr.
Gambit21 Posted October 17, 2017 Posted October 17, 2017 I'm trying to engineer a way to get subs to submerge when an enemy is close. I think I have it worked out - but need to test.

The small sub had a large wake even at 4 km/hr. The picture I posted above was set at 100kph, so it seems like there is something odd going on. Similarly I cant seem to make ship convoys move, while others have reported having no issues. I cant figure out what im doing wrong. Edited October 17, 2017 by Jade_Monkey
