175

Hello everybody,
the month of surprises continues and today we present you a new kind of them - instead of a new plane it will be a new tech. Our lead programmer and lead landscape designer were developing new stuff for a couple of months already: it will allow us to make the visual image of the sim drastically more realistic and modern looking in the next update. Their main task was increasing the rendering distance of the terrain almost four times, from 40 to 150 kilometers, and they completed it successfully.

Neat.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned that i would like to know is if the distances aircraft render in has been increased?

That's great news, especially because to me the haze is even more apparent in the Kuban map.

The pics look fantastic.  :salute: Well done!

By far the greatest graphical shortcoming of this game will now be squashed!

Can't wait for the next patch!  :salute:

Wow! Great improvement, nice work gents!

Looks great. Really awesome. Will this also mean the grass renders further out?

Posted

Can we also get an increase for plane render distance as well?

Posted

Very Nice Surprise, indeed  :salute:

Right now no. Maybe later on we can do something about it, but for now no. That's not a promise though. Everyone underestimates the difficulty in that request.

No this does not affect grass.

Jason

Yes, I too wonder if aircraft sighting distance has been increased with these improvements.

We have not tested this in combat yet. We do not know it's effects other than it's new beauty. See my earlier answer.

Looks like a significant improvement.

Very, very nice!

Now I need a new video card. I can't have all that delicious eye candy available and not get to enjoy it.

Lovely lovely, just lovely :)

A great improvement over the 'old' settings

Actually, I don't think most of us underestimate the difficulty required but that doesn't deter us from asking for and wanting it. :salute:

Really impressed with the progress the team has made. Well done.

WHAT?!?? Did not expect that. It looks absolutely awesome!

This was one of the thing I still thought was far out into the future.

Amazing accomplishment :salute:

I'm a bit confused; if the render distance is 4x longer but there is now haze, wouldn't that cancel out any visual acuity gained from having longer draw distances?

I'm also pretty certain if this is done as a graphical option, most people will turn it off as it'll make finding aircrafts at distance much harder. I think if it's added, it should not be optional.

Agreed. One of the game's biggest handicaps. Very excited and thankful that it's been corrected. Keep it up guys!

Indeed, this is a massive improvement.

Another major criticism of the sim has been absolutely squashed.

What is impressive is that substantial improvements are coming in every single week. The pace and quality of this development team is really first class.

What will be really interesting to see, is how this new atmosphere effects behave under low-elevation light conditions (e.g. sunset) and what it will do to celestial objects (e.g. the moon or stars when they are near to the horizon).

Yea, but have they made the ground softer on us when we get shot down. :(

Well done gents! Great work

My god, impressive stuff!

This will mean navigation efficiency will be improved... the ability to see the shape of the ground well ahead will be a huge bonus!

You've got it backwards, the haze is what we currently have, they're getting rid of it. Take a look at the pictures again, the ones titled "work in progress" are without haze, the ones titled "current version" have the haze.

Not bad at all now I dare to hope for a better rendering distance for planes so we can finally spot bombers from far away. :P
