CF-105 Posted October 11, 2017 Posted October 11, 2017 I noticed some time ago that if I overstressed the Spitfire after taking a few shells to one wing, the damaged wing would seem to always give way first. Trying to replicate this effect in other aircraft, I found that for aircraft like the He-111 and Pe-2 (aircraft where I can easily use the dorsal gunner to damage a wing), don't seem to be able to suffer structural failure from over-g, regardless of damage, until the point at which the wing spars have been snapped and there's a highly visible crack in the wing. I've also heard that an over-g will cause cumulative damage in the game, but I've done plenty of testing with aircraft like the Fw-190-3, He-111 H-6, Pe-2 S.87, IL-2 1942, with full positive elevator trim, up to speeds at which the UI indicates my airspeed in red. I have yet to cause structural failure from over-g alone in those aircraft, even after deliberately damaging one wing. It'd be nice it there was some sort of program to test damage with. Has anyone else found ways to prove this mechanic exists?
56RAF_Roblex Posted October 11, 2017 Posted October 11, 2017 (edited) I did lose a wing on my Mig-3 when I had not been in combat (flying in a test server offline with no AA) and I was not really pulling a lot of G when it happened so it may have been weakened by heavy G earlier. I have also seen aircraft with bent wings that failed next time a small load was put on them. I have a track of the Mig and I also have a track of an undamaged Spit losing it wing when one tailplane was shot off while it was under heavy G (No combat damage to the wing IIRC). Jade_Monkey Posted October 11, 2017 Posted October 11, 2017 I lost a wing last night on WOL on my Ju88. I had hit something during taxiing but the plane was still "fine". When i reached my objective and did a shallow dive, the wing ripped off when i was pulling out of the dive.
sniperton Posted October 11, 2017 Posted October 11, 2017 I have a track of an AI Bf-110 with the right wing damaged by 50cals. The plane continues stupidly circling clockwise when, some 30 or 40 seconds after the last hit, the outer part of the wing suddenly breaks off. There's no extreme G-stress on the wing at that moment, and I guess there's no sudden G-change either. Seems to be a case when cumulative damage works out with time.
Fern Posted October 11, 2017 Posted October 11, 2017 Shouldn't be able to over-g a 109 now, since they're so unresponsive at high speeds now. Unless you overspend them...

-TBC-AeroAce Posted October 11, 2017 Posted October 11, 2017 I have defo had it where I have over Ged a spit and it didnt break at first then I tried a small turn and it went ping
Guest deleted@30725 Posted October 11, 2017 Posted October 11, 2017 I did something in I think the yak 1 b. I was doing a bunch of hard turns over some time and the final one the wing snapped without an damage from other sources.
