So it was a bmw801 after all. Tail section is unmistakeable but canopy shape does make it look Japanese.

In the Pics it's a Pratt and Whitney. The BMW 801 was fitted to a Friedrich Cell without Bubble Canopy.

That's a strong entry... the Raiden is one of the coolest looking Japanese fighters. Manages to look both elegantly streamlined and brutally functional at the same time.

P-38 Lightning, whose engines had super and turbocharging, could reverse engine rotation direction by simply swapping crankshaft orientation, which carried extremely lethal firepower centrally, had extraordinary range, and could turn and perform well above what its size and weight would lead one to believe (completely outclassing the Bf-110 series).

It was also extraordinarily expensive and generated some of the best American aces of the war.

It's almost impossible to choose a favorite aircraft type with so many machines to choose from. The selections below are not definitive but they certainly captured the imagination.

This old girl was always a favorite of mine (even more so than the Spit) She isn't very pretty but she chugged away in all theaters, more or less to the end of the war. She definitely deserves a place here and most certainly in this Sim  ;)

P-40?

Nope, that's not a P-40. Looks like a P-51D/K

It is.  Never seen a D or any Mustang with that kind of camo.

What other variant than the P-40Q had 4 propellor blades? How did one of the 3 prototypes end up in that situation?

Well I guess when it is a painting or a digital image, it can have almost any color scheme the artist fancies.

i have seen pictures of actual P-51s returned from Central American AFs to the U.S. in the 70s and 80s that had very similar camos.

Heinkel He-111. It was build just one kilometer away from where i live. Still half of the city gets evacuated three or four times a year, during the time that police is defusing bombs with chemical long-time fuzes.

The Focke Wulf Fw190 A3

I LOVE the Anton series, and this was the last variant before they started making the airframe heavier and less like what Kurt Tank had originally planned.  Not that there's anything wrong with the later Anton's, the Dora's, or the TA's. ;)

Irrelevant - Canopy and tail makes it clearly a p51 plus it's a 4 bladed pro not 3.

With the engine failure modelling in BoX as it is now, getting the notoriously fire-prone He-177 off the runway without both engines blowing up will be an achievement worthy of a medal...

I have quite a soft spot for the He-177, but i don't think i would want to see it in the current BOS/BOM/BOK setting. It did some interesting missions with raids against GB, but all in all i think it's a difficult aircraft to model properly.

keep reading after the first chapter about the He 177. why does everyone stop reading at "the A-1 model was prone to engine fires"

Agreed. There were a lot of aircraft that had technical problems on first introduction. But for some reason, the reports from 1942 are always picked up on as if they are the final verdict on the type.

However, by 1944 the He-177 was a remarkable reliable bomber. In Operation Steinbock - although overall an unsuccessful campaign - the He-177 A-3 did well compared to other types (typically Ju 88, Ju 188 or Do 217). It was also used on the Eastern Front successfully in 1944 as a high-altitude bomber.

The real limitation was fuel shortages and the change in emphasis from offensive bombing campaigns to homeland defence programmes. That said, and as much as I'd like to see it, I don't think it would be a good addition to BoX, which is not well suited to high-alt level bombers.

Because the rest of the aircraft was not much better. No one liked to fly it. Heinkel himself thought little of the aircraft. There were more rotten things to it than the heavy makeshift Daimlers. But it was relatively quick, I give it that.
