NETSCAPE Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 (edited) ...based ONLY on aesthetic? GO! (include a picture please and be as specific as possible with the model and variant type!) Mine is the Ju 188. It looks like a Dragon Fly from hell. I love it. Edited October 11, 2017 by NETSCAPE 2
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 Any Cobra, no contest for me. The first modern fighter - great visibility, engine behind the pilot, great aerodynamic design and focused on armament. 2
NETSCAPE Posted October 9, 2017 Author Posted October 9, 2017 Ki-61. good one, that is a seriously sexy fighter
Finkeren Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 On looks alone there is no contest at all. It's the MiG-3. No other aircraft has such pleasing lines in such a neat, compact package. 5
Mad_Mikhael Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 (edited) Me-262 ... Or not. P-47! ...Or F4U! Or, or..argh, it's to hard to pick only one It's like picking my favourite kid, I love them all :-) Edited October 9, 2017 by =L/R=Mad_Mikhael 2
Flitgun Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 I don't really know why the Grumman Avenger appeals to me that way, but it does. Maybe an old war comic I loved. Dunno. 2
InProgress Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 If it's about look then F4U It's the only american one that i like. Other are so fat and ugly 2
Inkophile Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 (edited) I was about to chime in with the F4U Corsair, but as I looked through pictures and got its side profile... just no! It is super-sexy from the front, but in side profile it looks kind of like the F4F's 7 foot tall, retarded, inbred cousin. I mean... just look at it!! So, no. I'm going back to WW2's ultimate beauty with its infallibly perfect lines: Edited October 9, 2017 by Inkoslav 6
Finkeren Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 The P-38 is a strong contender for me as well, very beautiful design.
InProgress Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 @Inkoslav How dare you? Actually P38 is the ugliest plane in my opinion
NETSCAPE Posted October 9, 2017 Author Posted October 9, 2017 If it's about look then F4U It's the only american one that i like. Other are so fat and ugly I agree. Most of the American planes look fat and silly to me really. But then again I'm the guy who thinks Ju 188 and Fw 189 are sexy hahah. Me-163 for me. I literally refer to this rocket as "the cutest aircraft in WW2". I'd put it in my top 5 for sure.
Yakdriver Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 phew.A very close call between the Yak1b, 3, 9 and the Mark IXc Spitfire.
Zippy-do-dar Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 mosquito fighter bomber https://youtu.be/H_-AsgYvF2o 1
BlitzPig_EL Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 Tie between Curtiss Hawk 81 and Kawasaki Ki-61. 1
TP_Silk Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 It has to be the Spitfire - with the Tiffy and the Mossie a close second and third
Luftschiff Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 I love the look of slightly ungainly and quirky machines, so I think for me it's a tossup between the BV-138 C and the more conventionally beautiful He 219. 3
sniperton Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 The Spit IX and the Mossie, yeah. From the BoX inventory: Mc.202 and MiG-3 (as hounds), FW-190 and P-40 (as dogs). But my weak point are flying boats... Gimmie a Catalina!!!!
A_radek Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 I literally refer to this rocket as "the cutest aircraft in WW2". I'd put it in my top 5 for sure. But.. And some want a g6/la5fn/hurricane over this. Shame, shame on you. 2
Asgar Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 (edited) Me 410, no question Edited October 9, 2017 by 6./ZG26_Asgar 1
HBPencil Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 (edited) If aircraft that only reached prototype status during the war are included then without a doubt the DH.103 in the high-speed silver scheme is my choice (excluding the night-fighter variants which just look plain weird). But for production aircraft I'd go for an F4U with a heavily weathered 3-tone paint scheme, not pretty but looks totally bad-ass. Honorable mention to the Spitfire PR.XIX as well. Edited October 9, 2017 by HBPencil
ShamrockOneFive Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 (edited) Hawker Tempest Mark V Look at that beauty! (BTW: REALLY want to fly one in the new series... pls!) Edited October 9, 2017 by ShamrockOneFive 3
DB605 Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 Has to be late model 109 for me, either Erla built G10 or K4. Almost all bulges cleaned nicely, beautiful Erla canopy, taller tail to give it balance, yet larger hood for more muscle looks. There is many other to come close tought, clean yet purposeful looks of Kawasaki Ki 61 II, classic beauties P-51 D & Spitfire IX and more butal XIV, Hawker Tempest, Sleek FW 190 D models, etc etc... 4
BlznSaddles Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 It's kind of a stretch because they were built for WW2 but never saw action. But the Grumman F8F, to me, is the pinnacle of single engine piston fighter design. I like the R2800 powered planes... second fav is probably the bubble top P47D. https://goo.gl/images/Tjz3SB 1
=WH=PangolinWranglin Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 It's a toss up between the P38 or a later model Lavochkin product. Or maybe a dazzel painted buffalo. Although, if you hadn't included the WWII part, I'd chose the SR71 without hesitation.
