Donations ? What would prevent it ?

I am for sure just one among many IL2 BoS users that are so satisfied with the development cycle of this flight simulator that, instead of simply buying DLC for it, would gladly show my gratittude for the 1C / 777 team dedication in the form of donations, whenever possible.

DLC aircraft are so innexpensive ( the collector planes ) and tghe same applies to the 2 released Campaigns, that I don't think it will contribute much to support the Team, so, why not some form of Donation available from the 1C / 777 Il-2 Battle of Stalingrad site ?

What would prevent it?  There is no mechanism to make donations and to do so would cost the team time and money.

If you want to help financially then perhaps the best way is to buy stuff in the store, open a thread inviting applications from the needy or deserving and gift it to 'em.

Others have.

The devs want to run this purely as a business, and I respect them for that.

If we want to give money, we have to buy stuff.

The offers to donate have been flatly refused several times. Unfortunately.

Ah! Ok, wasn't aware of that.... Thx for making that clear.

Best way to help is to bring new players in!

To elaborate on this jcomm, giveaways are usually an investment as opposed to donations. Though the tax bracket for product sales is higher, a player (especially one who did not own the game before) who receives a product key as part of a giveaway is going to:

1) Spend more time in game

2) Share their experience with peers

3) Possibly become a member of the community

4) After a positive experience, they will purchase more products (both currently in existence and future releases)

Even if they only get one person into the game in the end and only purchase one more title of the game, that's 3 title sales in the developers' account for the investment of one copy donated.

Yes but if some wealthy person wanted to help secure the future of his/her favorite WW2 air combat sim, would they really have to buy a million dollars worth of license keys?

When we come up to those numbers it's a completely different thing than donating $100 through PayPal or something. Hardly possible to compare ;)

If anyone has a million dollars going spare, I'm sure Jason would gladly discuss it privately. But as for the sort of 'donation' that would be more realistic, game development is a commercial concern, and funding for ongoing games needs to be contingent on the quality of the product. Anyone who has been following the ongoing Star Citizen fiasco will probably be aware of the consequences of isolating income from actual sales of real working software. Not only does it act as a disincentive to the developer actually releasing anything while the pre-funding continues, but it leads to those handing over the cash to have an unhealthy sense of 'ownership' of the project, and a consequent inability to engage in critical thinking. While I'm no fan of 'free-market economics' in general, a simple buyer/seller relationship for luxury goods (which is what games are, after all) is at least transparent, and nobody should have any illusions as to what is going on. Keep it simple, buy stuff for gifts if you like, but save the donations for actual charities...

One should also remember this team is on a short leash with their investors. Money in is good but units sold is also a very important metric, especially to those behind the scenes/team. It's better all around to purchase units and show progress in both columns. If individual AC are too small for your appetite there are certainly bigger modules - campaigns and full releases.

I was donated steam BOS during christmas by my online friend with whom ive played zillion hours of simulator mode in War Thunder. Only few days after that i bought 10 USD - FW190 a3.
This new discount time i bought BOM and Yak1B. It all started with donated game. I wouldnt be surprised if I buy Kuban in the spring/summer next year. So i believe that buying and sharing the keys for BOS can help the the playerbase and to the company.

Summary: donate the company by buying and sharing BOS.

I haven't been gifted any IL-2 content myself, but I have bought a couple friends collector planes.

But I did receive a very high quality print of a painting depicting a Luftwaffe airfield in 1940. The artist himself signed the print, which is very cool. He was a beta tester for my Stuka campaign. It just goes to show how awesome this community is.

I am currently accepting donations for a P-40 by the way  :P

I'm sure there is some eBeggar on steam that is DYING to get this game. Do your good deed for the day! haha.

I've already done that a couple of times. I always wonder if the people who got my keys would have purchased the game anyways (at some point). Because that would be giving money to someone instead of to the devs.

I wish there was a way to know if someone would have been unable to buy otherwise.

I don't focus on that. It would become too much of a downward cynical spiral. Focus on your own character, benevolence, and support of the DEV's. That way it is nothing but a positive. You can't control what happens once the keys are released into the wild.

Im speaking purely from the perspective of what would maximize the money that goes to the devs.

Tzigy gifted me a key last Christmas. I probably wouldn't have ended up buying on my own. Getting to play it on Tzigy's dime sold me on it; but on my own, I wasn't ready to justify the expense, especially since I was able to do war Thunder's simulation mode for free.

Now I own everything. (Well, almost. Still no JU52, but someday)

So giveaways do work, at least in some cases.

OK OK Lads! "Luger1969" messaged me first offering me a p40, and I replied.

Then I saw "Jcomm"'s message making the offer as well.

Then I went to bed.

This morning....

I have just read that "Luger1969" gifted me a p40 :)

But "busdriver" sent me message saying to activate my key.  :o:

...so many many thanks guys, but I don't need any more p40's  :)

I have a friend just getting into the game, perhaps he would like that other P40.
