Hey gang,

Ok so I am somewhat curious. I have never really given any thought to gaming in 3d before. Are there many of you here that are doing so?

Only reason I am curious, is I ordered a new monitor today to go with my new system, an Asus 27" LED 144 mhz.

In reading some of the reviews, there is talk of 3d gaming with it using Nvidia's 3d Vision I guess it is called. The monitor does not have the emitter I guess it would need, but apparently can be purchased separately in a 3d pack I guess for it.

Don't know if that is something I might want to try in the future or not, I do get motion sickness easily, heck I can not even play FPS games for that reason, but luckily flight sims in 2d do not bother me at all.

I am sure I will be pleased with my new monitor , just got my curiosity up a little about this 3d thing after reading up some more on the monitor I ordered.

When I was younger many I was always on top of technology especially with electronic stuff, but find as I get older now it somehow seems to be getting ahead of me more and more...

Thanks for any information you can share,

I see you have an later model Nvidia gpu that may have GSync capabilities.  If I were you I would order a new monitor with GSync capabilities.  This new tech syncs the gpu and monitor eliminating most tearing, and stutters, inherent in current gpu/monitor communication.

That said I'm waiting for the Oculus Rift instead of buying a new 3D monitor.  Apparently the 3D effect of the Rift is much better than 3D monitors since its achieves 3D more like our own eyes.  I see you have motions sickness issues, so the Oculus Rift may not be your cup of tea, but the developers are saying their latest prototype has eliminated motion sickness, and motion blur.  The Oculus Rift should also be cheaper, and far more immersive  than a good 3D monitor.

.

I appreciate it but I ordered the new monitor early this morning.

Yes I saw recently where they are starting to off the GSync in a select few outlets, I decided to not go that route here with the early ones - the monitor I got will be a nice step up for me anyhow.

Re: Occulus, I just don't seem to be getting much excited about that device right now, maybe part of the technology starting to pass me by bit I supposed, maybe someday. But yeah, I think the motion thickness thing might get me on something like that...
