19//Moach Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 Well, this is an old beaten horse of a topic. the inadequacy of the current implementation of engine tolerances is not anything new, and hasn't been for quite some time. but I went around looking, and it turned out: there has not actually been a suggestion thread specifically concerning this issue. so here it is: the current timer-based engine limits model is grossly short of the standards set by the overall quality and exquisite detail of this growingly excellent series. now that so many things have been made and/or improved to such an outstanding degree, it seems very much out of place that engines would be neglected so far as to be handled by way of artificially imposed self-destruction countdowns. that strikes as a very much unfinished aspect of the game. a relic of a more primitive day when "not completely absurd" would suffice as the standard for "good enough" at this point in development however, having a simulation of engines as transparently deterministic as this does everything else about this series a rather cruel disfavour. this being a proper simulation and not an arcade "flying game", it is greatly desirable to have more depth to the simulation of engine mechanics. especially so in the way they can fail from damage and/or abuse. things such as oil and fuel pressures and temperatures, which correctly represent internal conditions and bear realistic consequences would be a truly massive leap in fidelity. it would even remove the need for "technochat" messages in order to gain awareness of engine state. it would be truly fantastic to have a comprehensive enough engine model that one can infer to what's happening under the hood just by reading the instruments on his panel. I dream of a day where my oil pressure gauge becomes as important as it would have been for a real pilot (it's first thing they're trained to look at as the engine starts) that would without a doubt, firmly assert this series as the towering apex of combat flight simulation throughout the whole of the industry 3
