SCG_motoadve Posted October 1, 2017 Posted October 1, 2017 Lets say you dont use labels. How do you know when you have engine damage? Instruments like oil pressure are not modeled. If your engine doesnt quit pretty soon, it is still developing full power. Power loss without the engine quitting would be nice to have it modeled, and with some nasty engine noises, shaking, which already happens but only just before engine quits. If it is an oil leak will oil temp rise? All this will add immersion also then with power loss you wont see the AI or a stubborn player in MP chasing you to shoot you down with a smoking airplane. Im more excited for more work on modeling this, fix the AI and new campaign , than new planes. Make this sim more immersive, its pretty good so far, but some improvements like this would be awesome.
II./JG77_Spaz Posted October 1, 2017 Posted October 1, 2017 If you have hud disabled the best way would be to pay attention to your revs. They will usually start sputtering. BoS' engine damage system is still in its infancy. Its mostly basic scripts in terms of time limits on how much longer your engine will run once it suffers damage (at least on the luftwaffe side) Don't have a whole lot of experience with the Russian's.
=EXPEND=Tripwire Posted October 1, 2017 Posted October 1, 2017 Usually if i have had minor engine damage in VR and no HUD, starting to see the oil mist beginning to build up on the screen was a giveaway. Engine rev's oscillating is sign of a severely damaged engine. I would be all for some more visual/audible cues about engine damage though without needing the HUD.
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted October 1, 2017 Posted October 1, 2017 The details are there. When it's just one rifle calibre bullet you'll usually see the engine running fine bar the odd jump/drop in manifold pressure or rotations every few seconds or minutes.

Certainly not true. I've been running home on smoking german engines for more than 15 minutes. Only exception is engine death due to exceesing its limits (which is too harsh IMO, should take damage but not die immediately). When you see the engine rev find a rpm setting where the needle jumps the least and keep it, that way I usually get back with damage on the engine. Most people think that lowering engine power is the best way when it often is not. 1
Guest deleted@83466 Posted October 1, 2017 Posted October 1, 2017 Black smoke trailing behind the airplane is normally a good indication of engine damage.
BlznSaddles Posted October 1, 2017 Posted October 1, 2017 I usually know it's damaged when the windscreen starts to get oily.

Venturi Posted October 1, 2017 Posted October 1, 2017 (edited) Engine modelling is the next step in this sim's evolution to greatness. It is what it needs to compete with the other two big boy products out there as far as aircraft modelling fidelity, which easily equal or surpass it in engine modelling complexity, currently. (at least, as apparent to this virtual pilot) Edited October 1, 2017 by Venturi 2
