fodwunwinglo Posted December 25, 2012 Posted December 25, 2012 seasons greetings all ,new year wish is 777 can save both il2 and rof from extinction. i played il2 for many years on hyperlobby , made many close friends, now they have gone the way of the dinosaurs...almost. online hyperlobby has always been the place to play il2 for most . rof online is nowhere as conviennient....servers with passwords for bunches of friends ,poor connections for us with rural cocoa tins and wet string broadband make it hard to enjoy....i feel some thing like hyperlobby is needed or why not get the rof game inserted into the HL game list ? perhaps its not possible. back to IL2 .....its much different to where it started, many versions difficulty for non pc savvy fliers to get upgraded to the latest versions which servers mostly use. so much grief for at least 70% of the players judging from the screams for help in the chat line of my game is stuffed ........ ok some of the mods were very good some just pandering to a few fliers who the hell wanted a nuclear bomb and x4 rockets soon on the cheaters must have list. mods have ruined IL2 see how people left , new ones came but now numbers are much smaller co-ops very few nowhere the fun we used to have in past years all in all imho it got overdeveloped....i hope when 777 get their hands in the mix we will get a darn good final version to play which everyone will say now dont listen to the idiots no more mods make it good playable ww2 sim if they want to mod it then say no not ever again. rof in its first version which i bought even before it was available here in europe was fabulous, new planes were great never a problem incorporating them....then it started ,skins...various ,huge downloads no good for us with poor download speeds......the dreaded cant load texture failure apeared....it was the start of grief.....with game taking ages to reload and the fast failure rate it was almost unplayable online.[for me anyway] rof visually remains excellent, new planes a work of art, online flying with others the main interest for most is not so good at the moment i have got to the state with IL2 that i just am not having much fun due to this or that version /mod etc ,with ROF keep struggling with the failures my hardware is duo6600 560gtx ti 2gb 850w psu audigy 24 bit soundcard and 4mb ram [xp pro].....unable to go win 7 or get more modern pc....dread big updates take days here ......so online with both these sims is becoming a thing of the past sad isnt it. im sure many are like me suffering ,some more it seems, but then i have the memories of when i flew with great friends on IL2 had wonderfull co-ops yes we were on the peaks then........ah nostalgia. have a good new year best of luck 777 all we can ask is do your best to save both these games. ~FOD~Wunwinglo ROF Flapping Brown
Bearcat Posted December 25, 2012 Posted December 25, 2012 From my perspective RoF and IL2 are fa from being anywhee close to extinction. I will not be surprised in the least if IL2 is still being flown in 2021. It is that good. Likewise RoF is the WWI sim. OFF is another option but the fact that it is based kn the CFS3 engine in my opinion cripple it.
ACG_Flyby Posted December 25, 2012 Posted December 25, 2012 I'll be interested to see where 777 ( is that lucky?) take the air war. So far as I know initial plans are for the ground war. I know the usual theaters of the air war have been done (western and eastern Europe, and the Pacific) but I think many would embrace the Med too, including North Africa, and marching up the boot. Of course i still await the rebirth of MiG Alley, and a modern refresh of the Vietnam Air war ( a ground-pounder's delight). So, 777...get busy! Flyby out
Bearcat Posted December 25, 2012 Posted December 25, 2012 Yo!! Good to see you here D!! ~!S!~ RT4Life...............
ACG_Flyby Posted December 25, 2012 Posted December 25, 2012 I'm just trying to keep up, Bear. You'll be seeing me around. I'm hoping for good things from 777. ~S! Flyby out
=OT=HORSE1 Posted December 25, 2012 Posted December 25, 2012 I am very impressed with 'Rise of Flight', ' Wings of Prey' and 'IL-2 Sturmovik' Thank You '777' for such awesome works, so early in the development of 3-D physic engines. However and it may be my system ( 32 bitter Vista 2 Gig ). Windows does nothing to stop a FAT32 file system from damaging a NTFS file system. Both ROF and WOP started with FAT32 files for TRACK files in watching replay. This can totally crash the Vista Windows system and may be a reason for some of my friends leaving ROF and WOP. Let's bring it to 777's attention ... I hope they go NTFS right from the start.
reflex9 Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 Summed it up for me. ROF is great but being booted every 2nd time the mission changes or you leave to go to another arena is very frustrating. ROF, Il2 is great for the IT literate but is a night mare for a 60 y.o. who is feeling his way into the ww2/1 flight sims. In ROF, it appears to me the most able pilots dominant the arenas and development. The novice pilot is not catered for and a lot join and leave after a short period of time. ROF also suffers from the fact that someone who has all the planes mods guns and technology ie trackir obliterates the poorer pilot, very disappointing to the newer pilot and you see an immediate response, they leave the server. . To me the games are in reverse, cater for the novice to veteran stage and you have a well grounded pilot to advance to ACE, not the way it is at the moment, where the aces (fewer in number) rule. The biggest frustration with ROF is the new pilot's inability to set engine management even to just start the engine then set up his joystick for views weapons etc. To continually go to forums or post questions (where a lot of pilots respond negatively or not at all) must indicate that the majority of pilots are not being catered for and that alot of players are lazy. It is the lazy majority who provide the money to provide the continuance of any game. To set up a game for purists (Minority) who want to micromanage every facet of flying then to attract the majority who want to fly the true physics of each plane but without the need to micro manage their engine flaps superchargers is a very tall ask and I hope they achieve it. I wish them the very best as I love ROF IL2 and to see them amalgamated is quite frankly utopia for me
