Monkie85 Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 I cannot open the viewer anymore. I keep getting the following errors: "Cameraman.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support. Error status 0xc0000020." This same error is repeated for both enviro.dll and common.dll When looking in the viewer folder all of these .dll files are showing 0kb. Any ideas?
Monkie85 Posted September 25, 2017 Author Posted September 25, 2017 UPDATE I removed the contents of the update bin and allowed the installer to analyze and fix the files itself. This was successful and I immediately made a backup of the Viewer folder. Now about every 2 or 3 attempts I get the same error and one of the above mentioned .dll's corrupts and shows a file size of 0 kb. I can replace that file with the viewer folder backup I made but this only lasts about 2 more attempts. So for now this is a temporary workaround but it would be nice to nail down exactly why those .dll's are being corrupted when starting the viewer.
Monkie85 Posted September 26, 2017 Author Posted September 26, 2017 Well now the error is showing up when I try to execute the main program. I'm getting the same errors, cameraman, console, enviro .dlls and the program will not start. I haven't heard back from support on this but I'm guessing that I'm looking at a complete reinstall at some point. Any feedback at all?
unreasonable Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 Possibly no-one knows what you are talking about by the term "Viewer". I certainly do not.
Monkie85 Posted September 26, 2017 Author Posted September 26, 2017 Viewer refers to the "Viewer.exe" which is the included model skin viewer which painters use to make new skins. Unless you are a skinner then I guess you might not know this. I agree the title might not make sense to a few and unfortunately the error has now moved to other .dll's that make the game unplayable, however I cannot change the title. This error is also affecting at least one other person, please see "Help to fix an 0xc0000020 error?" in this help forum. So far the only suggestion from official support is to reinstall the program but if you read the above thread it doesn't seem to be a long term solution. I did make backup of the original .dlls which are giving me the errors and I can simply replace them as they get corrupted but this is just a short term solution and I'm hoping for a more permanent solution. I've attached a few examples of the errors I'm seeing.
unreasonable Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 Aha. Making a number of skins recently and thought that this function might be useful.... so thanks for the enlightenment. Mine is working OK - but given the issues you are having I am too scared to use it.
Monkie85 Posted September 26, 2017 Author Posted September 26, 2017 I would recommend that you back up your "bin" folder because this has all of the .dll files which seem to corrupt. If you get the error simply copy those backup files back in and things work as normal. I wouldn't be afraid to use the viewer, I don't think it's the root cause. I've changed all of the .exe files to run as administrator and also shut off one of my real time anti-virus programs. I also had a windows 10 update that occurred right around the time the files were corrupted but I don't want to blame that right away either. It seems to be a rare problem though, that will make it tough to truly track down. 1
Thad Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 Windows 10 user here. No Viewer problems even after latest update.
Monkie85 Posted September 27, 2017 Author Posted September 27, 2017 I don't want to jinx myself but since setting the .exe's to run as administrator I haven't had the crashes again.
