indiaciki Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 I'm always short on final, too steep and I almost always get below 170 km/h on flare. I need help :D
HotPursuit Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 Hi indiaciki, The Pe-2 can be a bit tricky to land. I suggest you only use 15 degrees of flaps for landing rather than full down. Also you often need to keep a bit of power on when on approach. Don't let your speed drop much below 200kph. Keep an eye on your descent rate too as it is prone to bouncing. You can drop your dive brakes if you are coming in too fast and still land ok with them deployed.
AndyJWest Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 ... You can drop your dive brakes if you are coming in too fast and still land ok with them deployed. I have a suspicion that landing is actually easier with the dive brakes deployed: you need more power, and consequently should have more slipstream over the tail. May be placebo effect though.
Finkeren Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 Also, when correcting speed/descend with the throttle, remember, that you are in a heavy aircraft that accelerates slowly, so your throttle movement needs to be larger than with a fighter to get an effect and then you'll need to bring back the throttle once you gained the necessary speed.
Alexmarine Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 Did you fully extended the flaps? On landing it was prohibited to extend them more than 35°
1PL-Husar-1Esk Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 High angle, 200 kph final, flaps max 40%. Slow down using airbrake.
Wolferl_1791 Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 - Use your brakes, don't sideslip like a fascist! - Below 250kph, deploy glorious flaps 30 degrees max. Not one step forwards, comrade! - Us most powerful soviet engines as needed to keep flying tank between 250 and 200 kph, depending on your finals angle. - Flare up is forgiving, but don't force it. Think of it as a bottle of vodka. Use all of it, but gradually or you risk falling to one side. 5

sniperton Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 I've never experienced any problem resulting from using full flaps. What am I doing wrong?
Ribbon Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 I use full flaps maintaining speed around 170/180kph with throttle, once LG touch ground throttle to 0%, lands like butter!
Wolferl_1791 Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 To whomever's responsible for the il2 manual, hire this guy They did. But they had to fire me again due to my extremely anti-semitic explanation of how the automatic mixture system works on german engines. 2

Same here, pitch trim to tail heavy, full flaps, 40-50% throttle on final, any speed between 180 and 200 is fine for a flare and a smooth 3-point landing.
Herne Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 I tend to approach with either full flap or 30 degrees marked by instruments and 50 % throttle I try to keep speed above 200kph on the approach, and chop throttle on roundout. seems to work well enough for me with no bounce.

6./ZG26_Klaus_Mann Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 This is insane :D Well done:) I came in a bit too flat. When it's perfect the Nose is 90° and directly above the Runway.
