SLAVSlavManShae Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 So I know a lot of people are not a fan of mouse and in flight simulations and I would agree with you. However I do play a lot of different types of simulations as well as working long work weeks. My biggest fear when talking about using Mouse same in il-2 is that people will think that I came from War Thunder.I did come from War Thunder a while ago, but I graduated to DCS, and bought a x-55 rhino and became pretty proficient in the flight Sim Community when it came to the beginning of Battle of Stalingrad, and most DCS aircraft. However playing American Truck Simulator, and ets2, I had to put the x - 55 rhino away because my desk is not large enough. A few simple questions I have and I would hope that I would be able to get some answers, as right now I'm still trying to understand the game however, I will go back to joystick when able. how does the campaign system work? I am not sure if I need to play certain missions, or if I am missing a certain mission? Am I allowed to play the German aircraft as those are the most proficient aircraft, or do I have to play Both Sides? When it comes to Landing with mouse support, I have a question? Different pitch levels, however when you are using Mouse controls, your mouse dictates all movement including pitch. So my question is, after watching videos and learning about Pitch control, I'm assuming that was for joystick users? Maybe I am just s*** at Landing? And need more practice. besides skin mods, are there any other types of mods available? I see missions but I was also wondering if there was maybe audio or some other type of additional mods available, or is it still too early? And my last question. Seeing as the developers have allowed server owners to allow both Mouse and joystick or just joystick, my question is very simple. Have most of the newer Sim Pilots, and no disrespect, learned that just because you use a mouse I can tell you from experience the joystick will always have the upper hand. Or has this gone to a what I hoped would not be a Call of Duty / Battlefield type of thing where it's divided. I don't see a problem personally with someone using Mouse and keyboard versus someone who is dedicated to stick and throttle. Sorry this was a long question I will go into more detail down below if anyone wants to read so I'll just ask the question now, are more servers allowing both mousing and joystick or is it very much still half & half or, more of the servers are leaning towards Joystick? ***Just some thoughts below on what I have seen on this mouse aim controversy*** I would just like to say, that I personally do not see the problem if we all can be adults here as 777 and 1C have both explained that Mouse aim does not give an advantage, I see so many people talking about how how Sam is going to turn this into War Thunder and I will tell you that you are f****** wrong. The people who play War Thunder in realistic mouse aim will not come to this game because they will get their asses kicked by people who have maybe one month of experience flying one aircraft with a joystick. And yes I'm calling out those one of them. I hate to see this b******* in this amazing game. I understand that there will be some toxic people who don't understand, or maybe just don't like change, I still fail to see the trouble with people getting along. I will personally attest that if I cannot auto start up an aircraft I probably will not be able to play on your server. I'm sorry if that makes you mad that I am not a "True Sim Pilot" but I would just like to get the aircraft started, get up in the air, and after that, turn on the auto management system for the aircraft. As this is the internet I am not going to disclose too much personal information however I will say this. as I have spent the last few years, as a first responder, spending thousands of dollars for college, to obtain certifications for the field I work in, maybe you could give me some leeway that I don't want to learn how to start up and operate every aircraft in every condition. I honestly I'm just hoping that the community has grown, and I'm sure to be honest that there are some toxic keyboard Warriors that use mouse aim, and claim to be Aces, but that's just a few. Some of us want to join you, when we have free time, which for someone in my field is one maybe two days a week, 4 maybe 4 hours if I don't want to sleep which to be honest, I'd rather sleep. And build some relationships and friendships with people that understand that I just want to jump in and cover your ass while you're going on your run. I guess you could say I'm not a console peasant, but I just don't have the time to dictate hours to learning some of this stuff as much as I would love to as it does not pay my bills. I know this is more of a memoir then just a statement but I really wish and Hope, that more people have moved on. You need me to fly in formation you want to teach me slowly how to do this or something like that? I would love to! I really hope that this makes sense and is informative, as all I'm trying to say is that I want to play online but I'm scared because all I hear is about people getting shipped for using Mouse controls or getting kicked out of the server for even if it's enabled as if it is some sort of you have to be someone special to use a mouse or you're gone.
TG-55Panthercules Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 I'm sure you'll get some comments from some folks who are more knowledgeable (and likely more opinionated) than I am on the subject, but here are some thoughts. 1. I haven't played the campaign since the early days of the unlock nightmare (and even then I only flew the stupid thing on autopilot to get the things unlocked) - it soured me on BoS so badly that I didn't really fly it at all for a couple of years, but I still bought everything the team has for sale and followed the game with interest through all the updates, knowing sooner or later they would suck me back in. And now with the VR support and my new Rift and the latest Kuban early release update, I'm starting to fly BoS again and really loving the VR experience with it (but I'm playing PWCG, not the campaign, and looking forward to the new career mode down the road). But some folks seem to be really enjoying the current campaign now that the unlocks aren't an issue any more, so maybe one of them will chime in on how it works. I think if you can approach it with the proper expectations, you can probably enjoy it. 2. I've never tried mouse control (a better, more accurate term than "mouse aim", IMHO) in BoS. I did try it while beta testing the original introduction of mouse control in RoF a few years ago. Actually, it worked better than I thought it would, once I was able to overcome years of joystick-control habits. My son, who never really got into joystick-flying games since back in the X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter days, actually took to the RoF mouse control process rather well and got pretty good at it. I don't think it will ever be comparable to/as good as flying with a proper joystick, and you couldn't pay me to ever use mouse control again. However, it's there to let new folks get a taste of the game and what it has to offer in case they like it well enough to stick around, maybe spring for a joystick and buy some more DLC/game versions. With a little practice I'm sure you'll be able to land these crates pretty well even with the mouse, and if that's how you want to enjoy BoS that's fine with me (and I'm sure with most of the folks around here). I'm sure there will be a lot of people who would tell you that you really should use a joystick instead, because (like me) they honestly believe you will get more enjoyment out of the game. But only you can decide what's more enjoyable for you, so I wouldn't let their comments bother you in the least. 3. The devs have signalled that they will make a mods on mode available at some point, but it isn't here yet. So custom skins are about it for now. But at some point I'm sure the devs will deliver on that promise, like they have on so many others over the last couple of years or so. 4. I don't do MP in BoS, so somebody else will have to answer your questions about which/how many servers deal with allowing mouse control or not. Since it was pretty clear to me from my testing in RoF (and similar comments made by BoS folks) that mouse control conveys no meaningful competitive benefits in a MP environment for a game like BoS, I'm not sure why it would have split the MP server community, but the MP folks would have to respond to those questions. 1
