Rocket Aiming Helper

Hey gang,

 

Please pardon the dumb question, but I think I am getting even dumber as I grow older.

 

I know there is a rocket aiming assist in the sim as I have used it before, although been a little while. I was flying a ground attack mission and had loaded rockets on my Yak-1, and when I got close I turned the Hud on and hit the button I thought I had assigned for the rocket aiming assist marker, but did not get it.

 

So after the mission, I go into the controller menu under weapons, and I will be danged if I don't even see a selection in there for a rocket aiming assist. I see the bomb, and it works fine for me, but what am I missing here? 

 

I am sure it is something very simple. Any help appreciated!

I'm not 100% sure, but isn't this selectable in the difficulties settings? I don't really remember as I do not use any of these assistances.

Select "Bombing Assist" in the Realism screen, which you can access prior to clicking Start for a mission.

Yep it is already selected.

 

No trouble with the bombing aim helper, it is the rocket aim helper I no longer get and I can not figure out why. I know there was two different aim helpers, bombs and rockets and I had used them both.

 

Now for some reason I only have bomb helper, and do not see any setting related to a rocket aim help.

 

So like I say pretty sure I am going stupid here lol.

When you select "Bombing Assist", do you see a yellow diamond in the distance? If so, that's your rocket aim assist. Your bomb aim assist is a yellow circle lower down in your view. I think you may need a rocket loadout to see the diamond but I haven't tested that.

Yeah, I get the yellow circle down low for the bombs, just not the yellow diamond like I used to get. And I did have a rocket loadout.

 

Will check again tomorrow when I am flying again, I am partially blind so I suppose it could be possible I missed it - who knows but I really don't think I did... as I have had it on in the past and knew what I was looking for.

Sometimes this happens to me. I hit 'I" or the button that shows/disables the icons a couple of times and the helper comes back.

Try the following (if you haven't already):

 

1. Confirm that you have a key assigned to "Aiming Assist" "Aiming Help".

 

2. Select "Bombing Assist" in the Realism screen and load rockets for a quick mission.

 

3. In the mission, press your "Aiming Assist" "Aiming Help" key.

    The key should turn the rocket aiming marker on and off.

Shouldn't it be more likely the 'Aiming Assist' like for the guns, as you don't shoot guided missiles, but balistic rockets, that need a convergence setting like the guns. And as there is only one convergence, you can set, it surely is the same as the one for the guns.

When I tested it in a gun run on a target, aiming assist turned the yellow rocket marker on/off but not the red gun marker.

 

Update: Sorry Yogiflight, I misread your post.

- The "Bombing Assist" option in the Realism screen enables the bombing marker and the rockets marker.

- The "Aiming Assist" option in the Realism screen enables the guns marker, which only shows up when you are in range and aiming at an enemy target.

- The "Aiming Help" keybind turns the rocket marker on and off

Ok so it would seem the problem is somehow isolated to when flying in my PWCG campaign.

 

I confirmed I had everythign set up properly as you guys mentioned, went again into a ground target mission in my PWCG campaign. First tried it with bombs, aiming assist worked as always. I then loaded up the mission again and selected rockets, again aiming assist did not work at all.

 

So I went into a quick mission, and lo and behold rocket aiming assist works in the Quick Mission!

 

Very strange it would work there and not in my PWCG missions... will report to Pat in the PWCG forum and see if he has any ideas.

PWCG creates mission files only.  I guess it's possible that something I am writing in the mission is turning off rocket assist, but I can't imagine what that might be.  If anybody has a clue as to how the mission file might affect assist please let me know.
