Scheintot Posted September 22, 2017 Posted September 22, 2017 (edited) Hello players and developers. Suggestion: Adding a toggle button for zoom. Benifit: Just one button gets mapped instead of zoom in, zoom out (still they can be available) and it makes it less complicated in mapping progress. Greetings, Scheintot Edited September 22, 2017 by Scheintot
19//Moach Posted September 22, 2017 Posted September 22, 2017 doesn't VR have this? it would make sense to allow it for non-VR as well... I used to have that mapped out in CloD, and it does prove quite useful I would actually prefer having it as a push-and-hold, rather than a toggle. but both ways would be ideal, really. in flight sims, one can never have too many options
56RAF_Roblex Posted September 22, 2017 Posted September 22, 2017 (edited) One button? So it it is fully zoomed in or fully zoomed out? I don't think I would ever use this. Sometimes I want to zoom all the way in or out but other times I want to zoom to the exact view I need. When landing I tend to choosea view that lets me see as far ahead as I can while still zoomed out just enough to still see the airspeed dial. When flying in formation I may zoom in to see I am forming on the correct aircraft but then I will zoom out about half way to stay in formation because zooming right out to a wide view makes it harder to judge distances or closing speeds. 1PL-Husar-1Esk Posted September 22, 2017 Posted September 22, 2017 I use full zoom and half zoom and reset zoom (all instant) this three are enought for me, progressive (any degre) zoom in/out is to slow for me.

You can adjust the zoom speed right up to nearly as fast as snapview though obviously that would be pointless :-)
Scheintot Posted September 24, 2017 Author Posted September 24, 2017 Hello Community, I do not speak about removing the existing methods for zoom. I am suggestion to add a toggle button for it. Greetings, Scheintot
56RAF_Roblex Posted September 24, 2017 Posted September 24, 2017 (edited) I did not complain about you wanting to replace variable zoom. I merely said I would never use it myself. In the early days of IL2-46 I tried using set zooms on buttons on my joystick (Max Zoom, Normal, Wide Zoom) but what I found was that I would see a contact while in normal view then click the 'Full Zoom' button and find myself zoomed in on a bit of sky that did not include the contact. Looking for a contact while fully zoomed in is nearly impossible so I would then have to go back to 'Normal' to try to find him again then zoom again hoping I now had him exactly centred. It just was not practical for me but looking at a contact then zooming in fast while still watching him works every time. I know some people still use a set of fixed zoom positions but you are talking about *only* having Max Zoom or Wide Zoom and I really cannot see anyone using that unless there is a second button set up to return to Normal Zoom' (or do you usually fly with a wide angle view?) I did once fly for a short period with Variable Zoom In and instant Wide Zoom because for some reason I could only get one variable zoom to work on my joystick. That was workable. I could zoom in on my target then snap back to wide view and zoom in to a normal view again quickly. Edited September 24, 2017 by 56RAF_Roblex

BTW there is option for middle (aka wide third view) with out it, it would be impossible to not loose. Something like CLOD fixed fov view assigned to separate keys.
