Custom Control Pad app for Ipad

Here is a great Ipad App that somebody made to make some control panels that can control anything in IL-2 and DCS or whatever else.

http://www.frozenpepper.it/ccp/

Basically, you make a bunch of customized (and labeled) buttons, sliders, and whatever, and then map them to whatever key-press or joystick axis you want in the game.  For example, I have virtual sliders for my radiators, virtual buttons to control things like Rocket Salvo or Bomb delay (commands I never remember), and lots of other things.  It appears in your device manager as just another joystick/game controller called CCP and works exactly the same.

You download the small server program from somewhere on the website I listed above, and put it on your PC.  Then you get the App from the Apple App store (get the one you have to pay for) on your Ipad, and then you make your own custom panels as you see fit.  Great thing to have if you already have an Ipad. Or, if you are thinking of getting extra game controllers to control miscellaneous things, an Ipad might even be a better choice because of the endless control configurations made possible with this app.

For a program like DCS, in which there are a gazillion controls that you either don't remember the keyboard command, or you don't want to be mousing over them, this is especially useful.  You can also use multiple Ipads simultaneously.

This is incredible! Any Android equivalent by any chance?

Equivalent maybe, but I think CCP itself is strictly for IOS.

I had actually never had an Ipad before, but since I'm a flight simmer, and I saw a good deal on Ipads not too long ago, this app was actually one the main thing that helped me justify the purchase.

Tried the "lite" version and it's doing fine right out of the box. Looks like a tool with a good compromise between easy handling and sufficient design options. VERY tempting because the full version enables one to build (and exchange) a more or less "authentic" cockpit-layout for each plane with a nice skin. Or just an abstract all-in-one panel - as you wish. Afaik there is no data channel back from game to display data or actual settings at the iPad, so it will act as a switchboard mainly. A SDK for game feedback is available.

Right now I'm looking for an option to organize my virtual cockpit by virtual crew positions, navigator, flight engineer, bombardier etc. I used such a cockpit display extension ("UDP-speed" and "touchbuddy") in IL2-CloD on a second PC with touchscreen. I miss it badly since it helps to adapt to different planes, allows to place my markers at the instruments f.e. A fine way to organize and reduce workload in a multicrew-plane, too.

As far as organizing your various panels in a practical manner, I'm no sure how the 'lite' version works, but in the full one, it allows you to create new file folders within the App.  The panel files are then organized alphabetically within that folder.  For example, you could create a folder called PE-2.  And then you could make a panel called A-Pilot, another called B-Gunner, and finally, C-Bombardier.  You can then swap between these panels on the fly by doing a swiping gesture.

There are some aspects of this program that are kind of clunky, but it definitely gets the job done.

You're right, one can see the option to switch through different pages by reading the tutorial section. Same concept, will do for the different positions. That's enabled in the lite-version, too. Only aspect left to check is the way the sliders work and I'll pay for it.

Looks like the sliders work the way I want to - together with the sliding pages that's a huge step to have a page for each crew-position. And for fine-tuning each of the engines with slides.

BUT:

- Switches with position indicator don't send a key-press for each up and down (on and off), just once for the up and nothing for the down. So no use for those switches, just plain buttons and arrows.

- Configuring switches using key-combinations not pre-defined on the windows keyboard will do no good, too. Setting "alt+k" on the iPad will find no counterpart on the windows-characterset, no reaction. But the first part "alt" will remain active and you enjoy a lot of strange reactions. A left-click for example will result in an "alt+leftclick" and show the properties of that object. This is a serious problem since one never knows what kind of strange reactions the software will provoke if you choose a key-combination the windows-side can't translate properly. Will need further tests.

- So for the buttons used on the iPad-side the key combinations need already defined counterparts on the windows keyboard character set. Resulting in a limited choice of keys to use for functions. And the need to re-assign a lot of functions. F.e. one can use "s" and "shift+s" = "S", but since there is no predefined character for "ctrl+s" and "alt+s" those two won't work.
