How should default trim settings start ?

  1. 1. How should default trim settings be set ?

    • Set at neutral, all axis, irrespective of mission start on ground or inflight
    • Set at typical takeoff / inflight values depending on how mission starts.
    • Set only at typical values if missions starts inflight. Neutral for starts on ground.
    • Make this optional in the settings menu so that users can choose among various options.

How should they better be set ?

It's always nice to have options, therefore I voted for D. In case it's not feasible for whatever reason, I would vote for B (typical takeoff / inflight values). Remember we can reset all trims to 0 with a single keystroke, so I don't see much reason for choosing C.

I selected the second option, depending on the mission start, typical takeoff/ inflight values. Currently I am flying NETSCAPE's Ju87 campaign, and I had two airstarts so far, with a trim setting on mission start that is good for diving down on the target. So a typical value would be great. I think the fourth option would be too much work for the Devs to implement, and to make really sense, you needed different settings for with bombs and without bombs for fighters or the 110. But if the Devs would implement new trim settings, it would be nice, if they would also implement additional pitch trim on axis for the aircrafts with handwheel operated trim.

obviously if you start a mission in flight, the airplane must be at cruise speed and correctly trimmed for cruise flight. ..and as far as we knows, in a Bf-109 it is the Zero position with standard fuel and munition load.
The problem is when you start the flight with bombs, or fuel tank half empty, because all airplanes need diferent trim adjusts, for diferent loads.
..And i don´t know, if the trim systems are modelled correctly according with the aircrafts CoG. now in game.

Otto,

I believe CoG variations are indeed modeled, as bombs, rockets, bullets are fired, and even as fuel is cunsumed, although the automatic fuel management ingame doesn't allow for asymmetric fuel distribution scenarios.

So I agree that it's difficult to chose the "perfect" inflight start trim settings, depending on so many factors, but the default cruise settings mentioned on the POHs of some of the aircraft for cruise could be used as a reference.
