AI problems with ground attack

Hi, newbie here. Just bought the BOS few days ago and been basically training take-off and landing, plus few fighter missions as well as started the campaign.

 

However I think my forte is bombing and ground attacks and thus my problem. I've trained attacking in the few missions and for some reason my wingmen don't do anything. They just fly above the airfield oblivious to the ground targets. I've used the command to attack nearest ground target as well as patrol for ground targets and they aknowledge the order, but don't do anything at all beside fly around. Also tried the follow my example or something along those lines.

 

Any solution to this? This in normal mode and with IL-2 plane. I also noticed the same problem in campaign, when I chose ground attack with a Bf109. I was the only one engaging the train.

 

With air targets and flying a fighter I didn't have that problem and they seemed overly eager to attack, leaving the formation before I gave order. Annoying as well.

 

Besides that, really loving the game. Didn't think that I would go this grazy for the game, as it's been _a very long time_ since I've played flight simulators...Their Finest Hour: The Battle of Britain and Secret Weapons of Luftwaffe, those I played hours and days on end. Still remember the bombing flights from France to England. Really love those games a lot. There's been few simulators since, but never really gotten into them. But now, I seemed to have gone grazy, bought a proper joystick and I think in a few months I'll invest into TrackIR and perhaps a separate throttle.

Welcome to IL2.

 

No, your experienced AI anomaly is just that and not the norm. A wingman 'should' obey your commands.

 

The games AI is still very much a work in progress and not perfect.

 

Possibly the 'type' of craft may be a cause for attack anomaly. Perhaps it's AI setting but most likely the AI coding needs fixed.

 

I have experienced AI anomalies during my recent mission creation efforts. I had a single Bf 109 E7 carrying bombs set to attack ground targets in a designated area. It correctly follows the attack order even after dropping its bombs. The problem experienced happened when a additional gun attack is made. The E7 fails to pull up correctly and flies into the buildings and or trees. This happened again and again during testing. I finally ended up having the plane Bingo back to base after dropping all of its bombs to avoid the aircraft killing itself. Obviously, this should not be happening and needs attention to the AI coding.

There is a thread in the bug reporting section for AI bugs, I'd recommend reading it and reporting the problems there in the right format.

Yes, everyone who witness weird or buggy AI behavior, should make a report to the new topic. Devs are asking for your experiences so use that opportunity to help them.

What Zami said. Most people have a gripe or ten with the AI, this is the perfect window to have it looked at in the near future.

Ok, thanks guys. I will make the report. Unfortunately I didn´t take any video, because I was thinking that I´m missing something, not doing something right or missing some command.

 

Tried few more ground attacks and in those everything was fine. Perhaps the problem was the actual mission itself, something missing from the mission parameters? Anyways, I'll make the report.
