Is 3440 x 1440 21.9 aspect ratio supported ?

I've been looking at this monitor to add to my system.

Anyone running this monitor and flying BOS ?

3440X1440 is supported in ROF and I have a 2560X1080, same 21:9, so I imagine they kept the support in BOX. I don't have any problems with HUD misalignments or anything. Works like a charm. But it is better to wait for someone with 3440X1440 to give a feedback (I'm not sure if the resolution influences or just the aspect ratio).

21:9 is simply awesome for a simulator. I don't think I can get used to 16:9 again.

Running 3440x1440 here without any problems.

I bought this exact monitor a few days ago. Works flawlessly. On a 1080 GPU i get 60-100 FPS all maxxed out.

Thanks, Nice know that it works well with BOS

I also have a 1080

How is view when playing ? is it compressed in the vertical or normal?

Do you have any screen shots ?

You get a wider horizontal view, although having said that, seeing as you control zoom I guess the vertical/horizontal FOV is up to you :) I posted a short Kuban vid on YouTube @ 3440x1440 which will give you an idea:

You mean these photos below? The difference in between 16:9 and 21:9 is the extra window on the sides (first photo). The source (image) is the same, but you literally rip off some extra room in the "window" of the game and make it wider.

The second photo shows all the resolutions in relative size. You can see that from a normal 1080p monitor to a 27" (2560X1440) you don't have any changes, just the size of the image that gets bigger. But from 1980X1080 or 2560X1440 to 2560X1080 or 3440X1440, you gain extra visibility on the sides.

The only inconvenience of a 2560X1080 monitor is that it still is 1080p and the image is smaller than a 27" monitor, and this could make it hard to spot foes just like in any regular 1080p monitor. But in a 3440X1440 you have the best of both worlds. You have a bigger image without blinders. It should be just amazing (I need one, but down here they still cost a fortune).

To go back to a 16:9 monitor is the same to use horse blinders again. Even to browse the internet I find it odd nowadays in a 16:9 monitor. It is too narrow.

Nothing compressed. All fine. Youll love it.
View is very good. Resolution is more than adequate.

Yes and it's beautiful!

Bought my monitor when the very first LG came out in this format and i couldn't be happier.

I had the urge to upgrade to a 4K gsync predator when i mistakenly thought the monitor crapped out, and it felt like such a downgrade.

Glad it turned out to be a defective DP cable and i could return the monitor.

If you want monitor reviews for this specific aspect ratio check out ultrawidemasterrace reddit. They got plenty of discussions over which one is better and which is worse. From what I recall that Asus is using same AUO panel as Acer X34A and both have issues, primairly backlight bleed. You might get lucky and find yourself a very good model, but you may be unlucky and get a horrible one. So far it is a bit of a lottery and just because someone got a good one, doesnt mean you will get as well. In this regard Asus is considered inferior to Acer, despite the fact both use same panel, Acer X34A had far fewer issues.

Plus, another thing to consider is refresh rate - neither Asus nor Acer are 100hz by default. That is only a "OC" mode, which has its own impact on picture quality. If you want actual 100hz by default than you can try with AOC AG352UCG or Acer Z35P (that one is actually 120hz). Those two dont use IPS panels but instead a VA ones, colors are supposedly not as good but contrast is better. After calibration using colorimeter I couldnt see any difference between this and IPS I had, but contrast and actual black colors were deeper in one with VA panel. So it appears its not as bad as some claim it to be.

Either way you wont be disappointed, I got myself that AOC few weeks ago and even as it has some issues (two dead subpixels) and I've learnt that something known as g-sync flicker actually exists, it is absolutely amazing and immersive to a greater degree than any 4k panel (I've tried two, 27" and 32" Acer Predator models).

Just be advised, 3440x1440 is by no means easy to run. You will need lots of horsepower for that. I have right now 1080Ti, 2600k at 4.9 Ghz, 2 Ghz RAM and still can find myself FPS dropping below 50 in some situations (more in DCS than Il-2 though).

primairly backlight bleed

On my ASUS I got a little bleed. But its only visible when the display is showing a black screen. I must say I couldnt care less.
For me it was important to get an IPS panel because i am graphics artist.
Had a Acer Z35 with TN panel before and its really useless for content creators.

Ok

So I got Asus ROG PG348Q 34-Inch Ultra-wide QHD Swift Curved Gaming Monitor and set it up.

First it looks great on my desk   and has enough adjustments in height to sit just right.

Second the picture quality is outstanding and the monitor controls are easy and able to configure quickly.

Playing BOS is great with this resolution and has helped some of the visibility issue, antialiasing is better which helps with picking up the dots.

Tried it at 60 then 80 and then 100  herts and no problems in picture or any ghosting of image.

I did have a little problem with tearing, but it was driver and G sync related, it seems we have a little problem with G Sync in the  last couple of Nvidia drivers. NVidia rep said those issue would be fixed in a couple of weeks.

Photo shop / Vegas pro are all real easy to set up and the real estate gained makes it easy to work on projects.

Photo editing with 3 pictures open and side by side in Raw format is a dream

last but not least, it is wide enough to block out my wife glaring at me when I get exited playing BOS while on TS

I could not be happier with this purchase. :salute:  Wife maybe not so much

I used to run triple monitors but most games don't really support them, with a view plane that wide it greatly distorts the side monitors due to the fish eye effect you get from the camera, only a handful of games split each monitor into its own camera viewport and splice them together, it's the only way for it to work.. Plus they are kind of clunky.. so I decided to switch to the LG 38UC99-W 38" Ultrawide. It is the largest ultrawide that they make and I assume the highest resolution one as well @ 3840x1600. So it has the width of a 4K monitor but not quite the depth. It is a free sync panel that has a 75hz  refresh rate, so a little bit better than your typical 60hz but not as good as some of the other monitors.. This is due to the resolution of the screen, its a trade off of refresh rate or resolution, for simulations I am happy enough with 75hz.. If i was playing twitch shooters and fast e-sports stuff competitively, I would probably want something that is lower res with the higher refresh rate.

I got this for having a high field of view and accurate 1:1 cockpit and object replication and this monitor shines at that. While not as wide as my triple screen setup, it's less fussy to setup, has very little distortion at the corners and you can see a lot of stuff at the side of your vision, coming out of your perephrial. It makes for an incredibly high immersion factor and really is the best monitor trade-off scenario I can see at the moment, at least for my uses.

I know it isnt IL-2 or even a flight sim, but here is a video in it's native resolution of a race in RaceRoom from a realistic cockpit setting, the perephrial vision you get is essential when battling close to opponents and seeing where you are going, a lot of similarities with a flight simulator:

This monitor is 21:10 aspect ratio?

I think technically it is 21:8.75 ratio according to my dodgy math.... or 21.6:9 .. or 2.4:1 ....Don't quote me on that.

Thanks Panp.
