Stlg13/Sgt_Schultz Posted September 17, 2017 Posted September 17, 2017 (edited) I play IL2 using mouse look (left handed and not a fan of TrackIR), I use the hat for trim controls and moving the pilots headpoint, and the various mouse buttons for CEM. Depending on the plane I'll use left and right click either for rpm or prop pitch, or just both with a modifier key. But there's this annoying issue when pressing/holding right mouse button you cannot use the mouse axis to look around, the left click and every other mouse button doesn't prevent this, but right click essentially freezes your view while pressing it, which is a pretty big handicap if you're in a dog fight and constantly having to change engine rpm and prop pitch (especially prop pitch! ). Does anyone know the cause of this and whether there is some sort of workaround? And no don't have right click bound to anything else. Any help would be greatly appreciated, this has been doing my head in for a while now. Cheers guys. Edited September 17, 2017 by TheDaow 2
indiaciki Posted September 18, 2017 Posted September 18, 2017 (edited) buy an old x-box controller ! No kidding. Way better than using the mouse. If you use joystick there's no way around using track IR or trackNoir - it's free and you just need a webcam. The only thing that you can do with a mouse is to use the mouse wheel as secondary throttle. Edited September 18, 2017 by indiaciki
Stlg13/Sgt_Schultz Posted September 18, 2017 Author Posted September 18, 2017 I've been doing it for years and have the whole system pretty well tuned and efficient trust me . I used to own a TrackIR but I couldn't stand the feeling of constantly looking out of the corner of my eye haha, not a fan so I sold it. What I do is I have throttle bound to thumb buttons on the joystick, as well as trim, flaps, pilot headpoint, and have all my engine controls like rads, rpm, prop pitch, and a modifier key bound to my mouse (which doubles my mouse/joystick buttons). Works a treat and I use the mouse to look around, but the right mouse click issue makes it hard to track targets while adjusting my engine, other than that everything else is perfect. Just need some sort of fix for that. Also I don't think you could pay me enough to use a gamepad for a flight sim haha personally I need a joystick or it's a no go. Cheers!.
TP_Jacko Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 Just throwing some ideas on the table. Is there any way to check the mouse configuration. Msybe the mouse clik is set to hold on. Or is your right mouse button bound to another control. You will see a warning in the control setup screen. Maybe track ir is worth trying again
Stlg13/Sgt_Schultz Posted October 4, 2017 Author Posted October 4, 2017 Msybe the mouse clik is set to hold on This makes sense but it doesn't hold when bound to rpm. Right mouse click is also set to 'freelook' but this seems hardcoded or something because I have nothing boung to freelook but it still says it is. I much prefer using the mouse and actually have way better awareness with it . This isn't a game breaking issue in terms of setup, it's just a little annoying and I don't understand why it's like that. Other than this issue I love the control setup options in Il2 BoX, especially compared to some other sims which can be a lot more restricting. Appreciate the input Jacko
