Can gunners in multiplayer join a plane they don't own?

I've been looking around the forum for this, but couldn't find a satisfactory answer.

I understand that, as opposed to RoF, there's no free lunch for gunners (which is certainly a good thing in weeding out people with zero commitment), but can someone who owns, say, only Battle of Stalingrad, man the gunner seat of an IL-2 AM-38F (model 1943) from Battle of Kuban? Obviously that person can't access the Kuban map, but could he still join said plane on the Stalingrad map?

Asking for a friend.

Yes, in Multiplayer you can fly in maps you do not own, but not planes. I think however you can join as a gunner in planes you do not own.

Oh you can fly on maps you don't own? Interesting.

Can someone confirm whether or not you can join planes you don't own as a gunner? That's how it worked in RoF.

I have never heard of restrictions of the sort. As I understand it you have downloaded every plane and map in the game when updated, you just got it locked within the game if not bought. So it is enough to own a licence for one of the games to be able to join as a gunner

Yes.  I have joined as gunner in a PE-2 but I only have Battle Of Kuban so can't fly a PE-2.     I was also surprised to find that I could build an offline mission set in Lapino which is near Moscow even though I do not own BoM.

Lapino is one of the first maps we got , it is not part of BOM package . it comes for free to everyone that buy the game.
