Hey

I have watched this review

https://youtu.be/6XVZlVzHBKo?t=3m41s

It refers to the new Windows Mixed Reality headsets by Acer and Dell.

Advantages

- Higher resolution than Rift/Vive

- Lower or equal price

- Inside out tracking good for seating, no sensors necessary

Disadvantages

- Stronger Screen-Door-Effect due to square shaped pixels

- Very light holster that makes it swish around when moving the head quickly, not fixated

- Controller center of weight imbalanced, worse built-quality and tracking than Touch controllers

- Only available in the US

I wonder when they come to Europe. I'd still want to try one, and check whether the reported issues are true. What do you guys think?

Interesting. Apparently nobody has figured out a way to stick a camera inside the various HMDs and show us the differences in terms of resolution, SDE, god's rays and whatnot. We have to rely on subjective perception descriptions as if we were discussing the characteristics of a vintage wine, and not of a technology product

That's because that would not work, nor be sufficient.

As he said, the SDE is much stronger in the new Microsoft HMDs, even though they have a higher pixel density. This is due to square pixels.

It seems that a special display, one that doesn't have square pixels, is needed to mitigate the SDE.

Also new VR sets from HP, Dell, Lenovo and Asus at the IFA. While some unknow brands are also trying to release VRsets or starting a kickstarter campaign.

I believe this is intended to buff up the egg on his neck so that the HMDs are fitted more securely tight.
