Question: whats the best type of bomb load for diff situations?

I love level bombing and flying on TAW however I did an hour long mission to bomb a russian airfield only to get 5 kills even though I dropped 2 x 1000kg bombs. So for the more learned than I...whats the best bomb loads? I'm talking maximum effectiveness. Lets use standard TAW targets and say the He-111 or JU88 or PE2:

 

1. Airfields

2. tank convoys

3. factories

4. defensive positions

5. artillery positions

 

Do you use 50kgs? 250kgs? 500kgs? 1000kgs? a combo? what?

 

I've always shied away from using the 40 x 50kgs on the assumption that there is very little splash damage so its better to use something bigger like the 1000kg. Is this wrong?
