The ambient background sounds need restricting

Don't get me wrong, I love the sounds of guns and planes that you hear while in the startup screen,  but it is not always welcome when you are in the game itself.    

 

For example, a few nights ago I was forced to crash land just before reaching the target I was supposed to bomb but my wingman kept going and made his drop.  I heard him coming back and watched him fly over my head towards home but then I heard another plane arriving and warned him to check for fighters but there were not any other aircraft nearby, it was just the ambient sounds that happen to include the sound of fighters zooming around.    It happened again last night as a few of us were sitting on our airfield about to start a mission; suddenly we could hear aircraft in the area and were worried we were about to be vulched but again it was just the background ambient sounds.

 

Any chance you could use a 'plane free' soundtrack for players actually in the game and keep the 'Zooming planes' version for screens outside a mission?

 

It is a trivial problem but it might also be a trivial fix depending on how it has been coded.

I think its a bug - been mentioned an number of times in other threads too - the hangar track continues to play - apparently spawning out and then back in again fixes it for some. 

 

In the past ive just say in a village in my chute listening to dogs without those sounds so I assume its not meant to be.

There is also a bug where you keep hearing as if big flak shrapnel was hitting you plane hard during flight. but i'm not sure if it's limited to the TAW server since that's all i've been flying lately.

As the others have said: a bug.

 

Apart from barking dogs in the villages there are no ambient sounds in the sim itself.

I hear what sounds like artillery and small arms fire quite a bit (before this new flak bug thing), and it's generally not near the AI battles (like Stalingrad area).

So the menu background noise coming through is definitely a bug.

 

There's actually a good number of ambient background noises that you may not have noticed.

 

If you go into F11 mode you can zoom around the map. On the seashore and over the water there are ambient noises. If you go up a little in altitude you can hear a faint wind noise. If you go up higher there's a stronger wind noise (generally at the higher altitudes). Ships, trains and vehicles all generate noises including whistles and bells (although I guess those kinds of noises were not talking about).

 

It's those little touches that let me know that the devs really care about the whole thing.

The wind noise is not ambient. It is directly linked to the speed at which the camera travels through the air (or in case of a stationary camera: The speed the air travels past the camera - aka wind speed)

I'm not sure if those ambient at all. When there are no other sounds nearby, the sound of distant artillery travels pretty far.

Made up plane sounds on a sim XD

 

Wouldn't that be distracting...

 

Like they said, it's unintentional, just a bug. The game doesn't have a soundtrack.

Is that not the cannon shells coming from the aircraft at your low six? ;)

this bug has been around since v2.009 if I recall it - I had brought it up as soon as I first noticed it, but there has been no reply or acknowledgement about it from the devs.

 

I can only assume they're well aware of it, given the number of times it's been brought up since it first started happening. 

 

 

despite it being a "low priority" - it is indeed vastly annoying, and gives the sim an undeserved feel of an unfinished product, lacking in polish and care for detail.   I would suggest it is perhaps a bigger issue than the merely annoying nature of it would imply... 

 

it may not break the game, or directly affect its proper functioning but it is very pervasive, and is present more often than not (over 75% of spawns, at least in multiplayer) -- the frequency with which it happens is so high that it almost makes up for the small negative impact it bears upon gameplay 

 

 

thus I would reason proposing that it ought to be taken more seriously and corrected sooner, rather than later.  for albeit a mild annoyance, it is one which is there almost all the time. and very possibly gives off a bad impression to the overall quality of the game for newer players

I think there are more, certainly church bells in the vicinity of - yep - churches, and I wouldn't be surprised if there are others.

@Finkeren There is wind sound during winter maps.This is ambient.

Yeah. Church bells were in RoF. I think you're right that they are in this sim too.

 

Then of course there is the air raid siren, but I wouldn't count that as ambient, since it is triggered by the proximity of enemy aircraft.

I could live with always hearing cannons, even small arms fire,  while sitting in a field but overhead aircraft noises are worrying while on the ground.  I suppose I should be grateful that they did not also include the noise of tanks driving past or bombs landing nearby to the imaginary soundtrack :-)

To clarify this point, this flak sound happens for all players, server wide, simultaneously. 

This has been proven by cross-coalition chat, and people on TS cursing loudly every time it happens.
