The Unprofessionals - Australian based PvP server with AI

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

The Unprofessionals is a Australian based server catering to the casual players who want a nice chilled out environment to come put a few hours.

All planes are available on all maps and a lot of maps have all the tanks available too so no matter which pack you have there will be planes available for you.

We have a discord server for you to join if you would like to contact me directly in real time or on voice which you can find the link for below:

https://discord.gg/jht6JPv

We also now have a stats server up and running at the following address:

http://il2.theunprofessionals.com.au:8080/en/

If you have any questions or mission requests please don't hesitate to post here or contact me on Discord.

I have now set up a Patreon page to help offset the cost of the server as I will be shortly moving it to a dedicated server in a datacenter

https://www.patreon.com/UnprofessionalsServer

Regards,

DeadMeat

Work continues on the Kuban mission, and I have some ideas for a new mission to start development once the current missions development has concluded.

Shame about the AI...

Why shame? it adds interesting gameplay elements and means the server doesnt feel empty when the population is low.

I think most, if not all, the most popular servers have no, or very little AI.

I think most, if not all, the most popular servers have no, or very little AI.

I understand why you wouldn't run AI, it does take a fast CPU, and most of the bigger servers I believe are hosted in a datacentre and CPU's in servers tend to not have very high clocks so performance is at a premium in those situations and since the IL-2 Dserver software is essentially single threaded a high IPC high Clock speed CPU is the best thing you can throw at it..

Thankfully CPU speed is not as much of an issue in my case, and worst case I have plenty of overclocking headroom on my CPU (currently running at stock 4.2GHz boost) and it is stable at 4.6GHz under heavy load.

Another thing we have been working on is keeping the tick delay as low as possible and doing a lot of testing on the missions to limit it.

I like my missions to not feel empty, and unfortunately because some servers are popular despite some questionable decisions and mission designs my server (at least presently) has a low population so that means AI is needed to make it not feel empty.

I guess I was not very clear. I think those servers are more popular because they don't have AI.

I like servers with AI, KG200 had a OKL vs AI and it was the best server hands down of all servers with AI.  It was never the same twice, my group would go on with five to six players and we always had a blast, now that they have gone to OKL vs VVS, we never use the server anymore.  Servers with just one player side with AI that is really well made with random triggers are great, you don't see the same thing twice.  I wish KG200 had the AI server still up.......... it allowed our group to run missions for training purposes (bomber escort, and jabo) we could not do on servers with breathers on the other side or locked loadouts and work out tactics.  Running a server with both sides playable during your prime times is great, but having the AI servers run when your time zones are zoned out is a great idea too.  So I appreciate the AI servers.............  Wings of Limitations is like a porno.............. seen one you've seen em all.........................

Cheers

I'm not sure what that even means, but it does not change the fact that the most popular servers have little or no AI.  And the AI servers are usually empty.  So it's great that you enjoy AI on MP servers, but you appear to be in the minority.

One doesn't need an all seeing eye to see which servers are active and which are not.

I'm pretty sure the popular servers are popular because they're popular.

I'm sure there are lots of things that make a server popular. However, it's unlikely that it's a coincidence that ALL the AI servers are unpopular. But I'm sure it won't hurt anyone if there is another empty server with lots of AI.

There's a saying 'activity breeds activity'...its in relation to something else however it applies to online gaming. I think most players want to play with other players. Not everyone enjoys PVP but then again not everyone enjoys flying lonewolf on an empty server against AI. I know when i look for servers i sort by # of players so WOL (and now TAW) are the two largest. Every other one has like a 1-3 people on it with a lot of empty servers (again Aust night so maybe day on the other side of the world...with players at work??).

However its nice to join an actual battle with AI vs AI so you 'feel' like you're in a proper war zone (kinda like TAW is now).

Just to be clear, the missions are being designed so that the AI is there enough to make the missions not feel empty when the population is low.

The server is up 24/7 apart from maintenance and mission updates (of course excluding power/internet outages).

As for servers without AI being more popular, well that I cant comment on except that the majority of people I speak to who play on Wings of Potato do so because its populated, not because its a better server, and on top of that those people jump ship to TAW as soon as its up.

Depends on the mission, some missions have more AI than others. The Kuban mission that is currently being developed has two patrols of two aircraft, plus a surprise a little later into the mission.

We have just finished tuning and tweaking the Kuban mission to a point where I am almost happy with it... We will be having a flyout this friday night at 10:30pm GMT+10 onwards.

Southern hemisphere servers don't get as busy as northern.  So AI is a pretty good idea IMHO.

Hi Fel1x,

No there is not a specific squadron attached to the server, its designed to be a free for anyone to join type server. sorry for the slow response ive been otherwise occupied.

You are welcome, always happy to see the server in use and populated.

There are occasional flyouts that are organised on the MagzTV official discord server, including one that is happening this Sunday (19th of November 9:30pm onwards)

We have been working hard on building some new missions and we have made a few breakthroughs on blockers preventing a few things, so apologies if the server has not been open to the public at times you want to fly out, we should be sorted soon.

In the mean time enjoy the updated mission rotation :)

A big thanks to everyone who joined the server during the event, it was a lot of fun.

We have solved our blockers on mission building now and are going full steam ahead with new missions for the rotation.

Just flew my first short mission on your server. Looks like a nice setup with a lot of stuff going on. I flew in the mission with the tank battle around Verchne Chirskaya.

For some strange reason airfield installations, bridges and perhaps other ground objects "wear" winter skins albeit it is a non winter map.
Is this done on purpose?
A minimal briefing or mission description would help a lot with explainiong what "advanced", "rear" and "AI mission" is all about.

Apart from these minor issues I think I will visit your server more often.

Ahh that would have been one of Coconut's missions, I will be putting those missions back on soon as I stuffed up with the mission description text so I will need to fix that.

Eventually the Coconut missions will be phased out as we continue to build newer missions.

Currently we only have Kuban missions developed but will be working on stalingrad and moscow based missions now that we have the kuban missions pretty much how we want them

Glad you enjoyed it.

We will be having a flyout next weekend too if you are interested, ill be posting the details shortly.

Hi everyone,

This upcoming weekend on Sunday the 28th of January we will be having another flyout on The Unprofessionals IL-2 Battle of Stalingrad/Moscow/Kuban. All planes will be available so no matter which one you have you will be able to join and fly with us, and the server is friendly to all skill levels, but please note the following rules for the server:

1. No stream sniping, cheating, or similar behaviour. We occasionally get people who stream or make youtube videos jump on this server and while it may be fun to play the whole "kill the content creator" game it will not be tolerated here.

2. Do not Attack friendly aircraft, vehicles, buildings and etc.

3. No personal insults/attacks. I know you can get flustered and angry sometimes but it is never ok to abuse someone. If you feel they are breaking the rules report them on the discord with their exact in game name and we can check the logs.

4. Don't be a dick.

Further to this we are also changing the server that will be running our voice communications on to help people who join the event so there will be no need to go through an admission process, The discord link is found below.

Time and date:

9pm AEST (UTC +11) Sunday 28th January (London: 10am, Los Angeles 2am, New York 5am).

Regards,

DeadMeat

So got on the server tonight, my first time in multiplayer in this game.  I'm in US and its afternoon here so not really anyone on the server, thankfully as this is my first online flight.  I like the AI as it allows me to learn in a MP setting.  Question though, I took a JU52 to an airfield that said needed 5x cargo to relive 6th armee.  I had a good flight and landed at the airfield in the grid with my cargo and then killed my engines and opened the canopy, then exited mission thinking I had delivered the supplies but I apparently did not.  What do I need to do to make supply runs in this game/server?

Had great fun on your server last night with about 5 vs 5 pilots, very happy to see people joining these "smaller" servers also and not only TAW and WOL. This beautiful Kuban map is a bit hard to find so for squads like us who tend to fly only on weekends we really hit the jackpot yesterday. My question for you DeadMeat is have you considered not using map icons for planes, I personally enjoy the hunt and reward of finding enemy even after long search?

Thanks for joining the server.

One mission (and its variations) has the AI aircraft visible, but not player aircraft but this was by design of the mission, I do want them to not be viewable at some point so yes I have considered it.

I will talk to our mission builder today and look into that.

Also I cant remember the names but thanks for the two guys who jumped on last night and made our stuka run not so smooth, twas great fun.

Missions have been updated on the server and now include the new planes.

Hopefully we will have some new missions soon to add to the existing list.

Guessing the stats server is down? It hasn't seemed to update for me since the release.

The server has been up and active regularly since the patch. There have been a couple of outages due to electrical works being done and some windows updates.

Thanks, we had some issues with the missions which thankfully we have found and hopefully solved. we are in the process of testing and researching now for the missions so that we can get the server back to normal.

Hopefully it will be back to normal this weekend so then we can organise the next flyout.
