=RvE=Windmills Posted September 7, 2017 Posted September 7, 2017 The lowest my FPS will go is about 50, yet I still on occasion get stuttery gameplay. It feels like I'm playing with 20fps or so, while the counter is giving me a much higher number. This seems to happen usually in heavily populated areas in MP (lots of players/units etc). Just wondering if this is a known thing, or related to server strain or something. Or alternatively is there a setting I could turn down that might help with this Running a GTX1060 and a 3930k, latest drivers.
71st_AH_Mastiff Posted September 7, 2017 Posted September 7, 2017 yes heavy hit on your CPU, I doubt it's the video card unless your VR?
=RvE=Windmills Posted September 8, 2017 Author Posted September 8, 2017 If its slowing down so hard shouldn't it show on the FPS indicator though? Unless the ingame ones is not accurate.
Bonki Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 Same here, constant 60+ but feels awful and has frequent stutters. Is unplayable.

Assuming you refer to monitor play and not VR. With that kind of performance you probably have all settings maxed out. For starters try lowering the graphics preset to high or balanced, terrain 2x, distant grass off and shadows medium. You should get around 80-120 fps with that rig. Also overclock that 3930k. It should go easily from 3.2 to 4.2 or 4.3 Ghz with good cooling.
=RvE=Windmills Posted September 10, 2017 Author Posted September 10, 2017 Thanks yeah, I tried balanced again and despite not making a difference to the FPS it does feel significantly smoother. It does make me wonder what exactly causes the slowdowns in the first place, and why it doesn't seem represented in the FPS display. Is it possible to tweak individual settings in a config file? Or is the balanced/high etc the only way of doing settings?
Nibbio Posted September 10, 2017 Posted September 10, 2017 No, only graphic presets available. Forgot to tell you, make sure to turn the HUD off while flying, for a significant performance boost.
=RvE=Windmills Posted September 11, 2017 Author Posted September 11, 2017 That's sort of an odd thing, but yeah it does seem to save some frames. Oh, the one thing that still happens to me sometimes is that the game drops out of true fullscreen, and goes into windowed fullscreen. The only way to fix it seems to be a restart as I lose a load of performance in windowed mode. Alt+enter does not return the program to true fullscreen when this happens.

I would download some sw tools to check cpu and gpu temps and usage. Maybe one or the other is throttling due to overheat?
[BSS-214]commiekiller18 Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 The FPS drops have been going on for a wile, I hop on the forum from time to time, looking to see if its been fixed. Loos like it hasn't. This is an older thread about the same problem of the drops. https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/26850-horrific-stuttering-makes-multiplayer-impossible-dx11-patch/
indiaciki Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 I have a huge loss in FPS the last couple of days (Nvidia). Dramatic.
LLv24_Zami Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 Hi guys, about the stuttering issue. One possibility could be Windows 10. Take a look at this: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-performance/windows-10-creator-update-leads-to-frame-rate/e9ba297b-a0a0-4acd-a8a8-e906aa3f4d2d?page=8&msgId=debe7817-087c-4226-8587-1bac613297e4&rtAction=1495657484313&auth=1
Wedgewood Posted September 22, 2017 Posted September 22, 2017 I've been playing for a few weeks with a fps between 50 and 60 but usually pinned at 60. Steady flying was smooth but flying anywhere near an airport, near the ground, or sometimes with heavy air traffic the FPS would dip to about 49-50. They would slowly creep back up to 60 but there is a noticeable stutter in the scenery even at times while at 60fps. The studder reminds me of playing a game at 25fps(almost like stop motion) even though it's showing sometimes 60fps. I've done some experimenting and found that if I turn grass quality to the lowest and shadows off I can completely get rid of the lag and FPS drop. I understand that shadows and higher textures affects FPS but I don't understand why even at 59fps the ground is stuttering like a stop motion film.
