Can anyone advise how I can get the swastika on my German aircraft? Its easy to do in cliffs of Dover but I cant seem to find anything to enable in BOS or any future title?

No swastikas - do a search as it's been discussed an obnoxious number of times already.

What you need to know is that legal restrictions regarding paid distribution of content in many European countries do not allow for content deemed offensive legally, and the swastika falls under offensive content in many (most?) countries. It's a measure created to prevent neo-nazis and the likes from selling HITLER IS MY DADDY t-shirts, or more hard-core stuff, thus keeping them quiet and shielding the general public from sympathisers.

Some developers have inserted easy ways to work around that but this is, factually, circumventing the law and under some scrutiny developers who do that could be in trouble. No way around it.

What you can do though is download custom skins which do show it and use them on your aircraft.

You are asking for swastika on the forum, where swastika is banned, of the game, where swastika is banned too.

Very smart.

@ Panzerbar :

Doesn’t your avatar show a...swastika ?? (ok, made of twisted snakes, but a swastika anyway...).

When was swastika banned on these forums? Can't find any rule about that and there are skins and historical pics on the forums that show swastikas and even your own profile image shows a swastika.

I'd never fly a plane that has the swastika on its tail.

I am not an expert of legal stuff in every country, but when looking at Wikipedia, only Germany and Austria have prohibited all kinds of public showing of swastika. Poland and Lithuania have prohibited public showing of Nazi swastika and some other countries have prohibited using swastika to propagate nazism. I have also understood that Russia has taken more strict approach about swastikas lately. So actually not very many countries have banned the symbol, but even these few countries are obviously enough and the devs don't want the possible headache related to that topic.

A banned symbol in a game representation of war, where you can drop 1000kg bombs on people for fun and send others hurtling to their fiery virtual deaths at 500 kph.

I love being human, the irony involved is almost God-like. :)

In Old Europe, most think of the Swastika as most Cannucks would think of sissy lumberjacks. So, no Swastika.

All lumberjacks are sissies. Put a cute puppy in front of us and we melt. :)

Add France and Hungary there too, but you're right. I thought there were more for some reason.

Russia and Germany are their two biggest markets in Europe though which would mean a big hit if anyone invoked such legislation.

The answer is: use custom skins, like Stick said.

The banning of historical symbols is why history gets forgotten.  The US is going through this right now with Confederate monuments.  Those that were affected do themselves a disservice by slowly removing the memory of the events over time.

That's preposerous. Name me one instance where history has been forgotten by disallowing public display of certain symbols.

Swastikas are not illegal per se. They are illegal to use in contex with games, fashion, things like that. They are not removed from historic documents. But it's just that we've seen enough people waving that one around, doing what they do, to not ever see them again like that.

I used to think the idea of hiding the swastika in this and other games was silly in the extreme. But given recent events in this country, I no longer think so. While I still believe the vast majority of mankind can recognize the evil history they represent, there is a growing menace around the world that chooses not to. Banning the swastika from a game won't solve the issue, but it is a start. We should not forget the evil it represents. We also shouldn't allow its glorification.

It's a big difference for me, if I put a swastika on my plastic model to represent a historical air plane or if I want a historical correct skinned aircraft

in a combat simulation although I don't really care about 100% historical correct skins. I don't think that these two examples are a nazi thing.

But those retards marching in the streets with swastikas on flags, banners and clothes are the real problem and nazis. And therefore it's OK to

ban this symbol in forums and simulations.

Having historical swastikas on historical skins is about being historical, not about glorification of the symbol. Even Finnish swastikas are banned in the game. The reason of leaving swastikas out is just because these symbols are illegal in some important markets.

You realize the paradox about naming instances that have been forgotten? ;) There are instances, though, where historical events have been forgotten for centuries and been dug out by historians and archeologists later on.

Yep, I hate to say anything in this discussion but here we go: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finnish_Air_Force. I assume that you Kemp know this already but I don`t wan`t anyone to jump to a wrong conclusions.

Finnish Air Force insignia 1918-1944 has absolutely nothing to do with nazis. Nada.

Yes I know that and that was what I meant. Also another neutral country, Latvia, had swastika on their planes from 1918, so before nazi party even existed.

Yes, it was not meant for you. I knew you knew  :)

We have traditional air force and army flags on every parade here, thats the way it`s always been. No one connects those to the nazis, because they have nothing to do with them.

The point stands I think.

This thread is ripe for locking methinks.

I think the first two answers in this topic answered the original question completely. There was nothing to add after that, so it became a general discussion.
