1CGS LukeFF Posted September 2, 2017 1CGS Posted September 2, 2017 (edited) There is a P-40E spec chart noting that 28 gallons of fuel needs to be allowed for warm up, which equates to about 105 liters. Were the numbers similar for other contemporary planes? Edited September 2, 2017 by LukeFF
Venturi Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 My understanding, is that the fuselage tank could be "overloaded" to give the additional capacity. 28gal is however a ridiculous amount of fuel for warm-up. Especially seeing as how the aircraft basically overheated on the ground if the radiator was less than wide-open, and if it sat too long idling. What they probably meant, is that 28gal WAS NOT AVAILABLE for flight planning, in that it was needed for taxiing and flight rendezvous / organization before headed off to the combat area. The fuel loadout, as described in the US ARMY pilot's handbook, and training manual: 62.5gal + 50.5gal + 35gal = 148 gal total capacity.
Finkeren Posted September 7, 2017 Posted September 7, 2017 Over a hundred litres of fuel for warm-up does sound ridiculous. .
