Is a sub a ship or vehicle?

Just had a QM where I destroyed a sub but the mission briefing indicated that 1 vehicle was destroyed and 0 ships. Is this a bug? I assume a sub is closer to a ship than a vehicle

I was practicing skip bombing with the P40 last night in the QMB, and the two new ships were escorted by that German armed barge thing.

 

After I sunk the tanker with a single FAB 500, (piece of cake really) I came around again and shot at the barge with my guns.  Saw two explosions on the deck and the barge stopped shooting at me.

 

Flew back to a base and landed, and was credited with one ship, and two vehicles (for the guns on the barge).
