Mountain weather

When flying through the mountains I get an occasional wobble / swing. Is this intentional and if it is what causes it and are there any other effects that I should be aware of when flying through the mountains, like updraft or downdraft ?

To be clear, the swing of the nose was when flying a 111 through the mountain passes and passing over ridges the nose of the aircraft would swing to one side.

Haven't noticed it, but if the winds are more unpredictable and turbulence more severe in mountaneous areas, that makes total sense to me.

Just to be clear, I didn't have any wind or turbulence set, it was purely the effect from flying over ridges or saddles.

Yetis - you need to look out for Yetis.

What an abominable thought. I hope I have't gone and put my "big foot" in my mouth.

It would be great if mountain effects were modelled - that would be a 1st time in a combat sim!

But yesterday's update mentioned something about that :

-2. Wind speed will no longer suddenly decrease or increase while approaching the airfileds in the mountains;

Something about wind change but near aerodromes and mountains... BTW i would like to see downdrafts which can be very dangerous - cause of death of word records holder Mr Steve Fossett. And that was in powered flight where downdrafts exceeded climb capability of the airplane.

Yes but where would it stop ? if you start down this path pretty soon you have to model thermals, ridge lift, wave etc. Nah, I prefer to have the game perform well rather  than try to accurately model all kinds of atmospheric conditions.

Devs would know where it should stop. For flight and fight it's very important to model behavior of only one true important medium as is air. Air is not still and empty space. All air condition (beside it's machine) are most important for the pilot.

Yes I know, and to be fair to the devs, they have modeled a wide variety of conditions already such as turbulence, variable wind speed and direction depending on altitude etc, variable cloud cover.

All i'm saying is that what you are asking for is actually quite complex air moving over terrain is not so dissimilar to water flowing over a river bed.

I don't deny it would be an extremely cool feature to have in game, but given how much of a performance hit AI tanks seem to give servers as they advance to contact. ( This is based on my observation from comparing playing on the finish server where tanks do advance to contact, and TAW where they do not) I think a dynamic atmospheric model is asking for a lot.

I would like to have thermals implement.

At first flight over Kuban's mountains, I said to myselft: "Mmmmh...here, with thermals and a SG38...."  Sweat dream!!!

Maybe i'm wrong but last night i noticed when flying he111 on a moderate wind conditions and when passing by in close of mountain peaks there is sudden wobble/wind hit  right after i passed mountain peak which is pretty realistic situation from RL. Good job devs!

I wonder how much, if any, of this still pertains to BoX and if terrain has any effect on the atmospheric ether.

I would like to know it to, btw I think there is no propwash effect in multiplayer.
