So... The new map rocks, so do the new FMs...

Can we now have the ability to host on the fly from our own machines and a streamlined mission editor that will allow lots more people to create new servers and content for them?

Please?

Want to grow the franchise?  Make it more accessible to more people.

Our (mine too) fixation on new planes and maps is masking some non pixel type content needs that will really help the sim.

We have been talking about the new content on our forum and everyone agrees it's great, but everyone also agrees it's too bad that we can't bang out a quick mission to host and fly among ourselves to try it out.

And pleas guys, don't tell me it's easy, to watch the home made tutorials, and once you "get it" it's a piece of cake.

It isn't.

It shouldn't be this hard to make new content (missions) and host them.

It just shouldn't in this day and age of computer gaming.

Can we now have the ability to host on the fly from our own machines

Proper CoOp mode has been mentioned as a planned/desired feature. We'll just have to wait and see I guess, my personal wild dream is the ability to host career missions in CoOp and have friends fill out the other slots in the flight.

BlackSix gave an interesting reply in the Russian forums on why the mission editor works like it does.

To make it short, it was created as a developer tool for the team to make campaign and single missions back in Rise of Flight, and it was eventually made available to the users but with no support (did you know it has no Russian localisation, for example?).

When people say it takes a programmer to use properly, they're right - it was made for programmers to create missions

The ME is a pita - spent hours last night just to make a one on one, and I still have not got the AI behaving just right yet.  I would love to have a streamlined version.

Alternatively, what I would like is a fully populated map so that I can go sightseeing.  I see the latest hotfix has reduced the radius at which buildings are generated from the action in QMB, and I can see that makes sense, load times are rather long. However, that reduces the appeal of the map for sightseeing flights.

Is there one somewhere? Or how do I add all buildings to a map in FMB?

I could sit with you at a puter and teach you in an afternoon...too bad your all the way in Ohio. :)

The team doesn't have the time/personnel resources to make a few minor adjustments we need in the existing editor, let alone create a new one.

That's just how it is, and it's not going to change.

So...at some point you'll do what I did, say "F it" put your head down and spend the hours to learn it.

I'd even be willing to spend time on the phone with you going over the basic logic and sharing some groups to get you going.

It's your destiny.

On the plus side, we finally have a diverse range of multiplayer environments that cater for almost all players thanks to the small group of ME wizards, and a handful of single player campaigns and mission packs as well for the SP players. Add to that the upcoming pilot career and, despite lacking the numbers 1946 had, this simulator is compensating with depth.

I suppose part of the learning curve is simply accepting that this is not a revamped 1946 but a successor in spirit that is still setting its foundations in. It doesn't have 30 full servers and twelve coops, but dynamic scenarios à la DED, TAW, coconut's and the Finnish server are great places to take the gang to outside a controlled environment.

Got it - answered there first. Thank-you!

The trouble with the game is that the increasing level of detail makes it harder for someone (like me) who does other things and likes to have a general ability to create keep up to speed. Not having made a film for a few months, I now have to not only relearn much of what I had struggled to master in PowerDirector, but also remember how to use the layered skins properly in GIMP and the get  the ME to produce the scenarios I want.  If I was not retired I would have given up long ago.  :(   The creation, not the flying around blowing stuff up!

If you can get it all right the results are great: but as with any job that requires increasing technical skill, the result is likely to be more specialization of labour, with  far better results at the top end, but fewer people able to produce something decent at all.

I can relate to the learning/relearning cycle. Wanting to just produce but trying to remember hot keys and workflows.

I've been through that a number of times with my 3D programs - it's a drag.

It's a shame the editor isn't open source. I can't imagine it having any sort of impact on profits- it's not like the editor is useful at all without owning the game. But that's wishful thinking on my part for sure.

Yeah, it would be wonderful if some of the really good geeks here (meant with all respect, as I am at geek n00b level) could have the thing and be allowed to make a more streamlined editor that more people could use.

Gambit, I appreciate your offer, but I play the game for fun, learning this editor would really be a second job that I just don't have time for.  I really did enjoy making missions for '46 that the Pigs could fly.

But creating a world from whole cloth, and all the scripting, nope.  I'm not an IT professional, and don't want to be, I'm too close to retirement now to take on such an undertaking.

I just hope that somehow this situation can change, it would open up so many more possibilities for the sim.

I too wish you could easily host mission and play it with your friends. I hope we get the COOP mode some day, it would be great improvement.

Thanks.

I will forward to our mate that can host.

Oh by the way I'l make the promised "fly around and blow crap up" Kuban mission.

Not sure exactly when, I'm getting groundwork laid (lines etc) for the A-20/IlL2/P-39 campaign, but it'll happen.

I have managed, barely, with perhaps a 50% success rate, to get a plane in the air and some static objects on the ground and make it work.

That said, it has made me go bald and I've considered taking up drinking again. :(

Yes, great update, but my sweet, hot babe, the Yak-1b, seems like she got her wings clipped a little. I played the last few days and then came back just now and found myself stalling where I didn't stall before. Hmm... :-)
