Pharoah Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Ok at the risk of getting flamed, here's my dream. Whether it be achievable in BOS and/or within the next few years, I dunno...but hey dreams are free. The Dream: IL2 Battle of Europe Time Setting: early 1944 Map: One massive europe map covering SE England, the channel, France (down to Cherbourg incl Normandy), Belgium, Netherlands, up to southern Norway and Denmark, as far East as Western Germany or even central Germany Aircraft: USAAF: P47, P51B/D, P38, B26, B24, B17 RAF: Spitfire IX, Mosquito, Lancaster, Tempest, Typhoon Luftwaffe: BF109 G/K, FW190, JU88, ME210, JU87, BF110 Types of missions you can fly: 1. Bomber campaign: daylight (B17/B24/B26 escorted by P47/P38/P51/Spitfire vs BF109/FW190), night (Lancaster, mosquito, JU88 vs JU88, BF110, ME210) 2. Fighter campaign: Fighter sweeps (P47, P38, P51 vs BF109, FW190), ground attack (Typhoon/Tempest) 3. Attack campaign: anti shipping strikes (Mosquito) into Denmark, Norway fjords 4. D-Day campaign - scripting in landings, etc. Can you imagine? The scale and variety of missions all happening at once. Before you flame, just remember..this is a dream. I'm sincerely hoping one day it can become a reality.
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Past the technical conundrum, here's what I'm not into. 4 hours to and from Germany with ten minutes of action restricted to a handful of Fw-190 showing up, emptying their magazines and diving home. A great 1944/5 scenario would be a 2nd TAF campaign. Great aircraft, intense tactical environment, a variety of participants and feasible mission parameters. 1
busdriver Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 In the spirit of Gary Larson this is what I read in the OP... Aircraft: Blah blah blah Mosquito blah blah blah, Missions: blah blah blah Mosquito blah blah blah 2
=SqSq=Sulaco Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Sounds like the closest thing you'll get to that in any kind of "nearish" future is Wings over the Reich. It's being created by the same team that did Wings Over Flanders Fields. They've started development but have been very quiet since, news is supposed to hit in the fall. Here's a link: http://www.wingsoverthereich.com/
ShamrockOneFive Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 I've got some hopes for at least some of that dream to come true as well with a European tactical air part of the IL-2 series at the very least. I know the four engine heavies are a dream but realistically I'd be having a blast with the B-25 and B-26 too. Dreams are free. No flames required
Pharoah Posted September 1, 2017 Author Posted September 1, 2017 The Kuban map shows me that the BOS team are more than capable of developing large scale maps which look quite good (and are smooth as butter). Maybe even breaking down the maps into just SE England and France. Its just that I love the ability to 'stumble' upon other flights (either friendly/enemy) but also the myriad of missions you could do at the same time: - bomber escort (medium/heavy) - airfield attack - anti shipping - fighter sweeps - train hunting - etc

The rest of it - a tactical channel map is in the realm of possibility and would be a blast. There's little point in going on about heavies however. As the topic says though - dreams are free. Still, a B-17 might as well be a Star Destroyer given the odds of you getting it.
Jaws2002 Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Dreams are free... .....as long as they stay dreams.
Cybermat47 Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 I would also like to see Commonwealth/Exile night bomber missions.
Royal_Flight Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 Western Europe would be great, a map featuring the south of England and west of France plus the channel (a version of which already exists in RoF which could be updated...) and an appropriate plane set would be a first-day preorder for many here I'm sure, and definitely myself. As I see it there are two ways to do it... the first would be pre-invasion, maybe 1943 which could make the Channel more of a feature, especially after Kuban and the Pacific. Missions could consist of fighter sweeps on both sides of the Channel, the RAF 'Rhubarbs' and Luftwaffe 'tip-and-run' raids; anti-shipping against British convoys and German submarines; photorecon tasks and ground strikes against airfields, factories and facilities and fortifications. The second option would be post-Overlord and where the ground campaign has already moved inland to provide a more familiar and focused close air support set of tasks involving hitting ground targets, dropping bridges, escorting bombers and so on. There could also be V-1 launch sites to be defended or destroyed, complete with V-1s launching at set intervals which then have to be intercepted by the allied side. Depending on when this was set it could also start to feature early jets such as the Gloster Meteor, Me262 and Arado Blitz and could potentially lead naturally onwards into Il-2 Battle of the Bulge or Battle of Berlin expansions, both of which I'd also buy on day one.
