AcesHigh Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 Hi I have a oculus rift and flying in BOK is jaw dropping to say the least. However I'm curious about the oculus debug tool vs steam VR pixels per display and super sampling options. Does one override the other, I normally run oculus debug in 2 and steam vr with supersampling 1.7 and enale advanced super sampling on. What is the right way to set this up? In BOS / BOK I seem to get a better picture with SSAO and HDR off , do other find this as well or do you use these? Specifically in BOK if applicable. That's all thanks
BeastyBaiter Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 (edited) I recommend using one or the other. Edited August 31, 2017 by BeastyBaiter
dburne Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 I recommend using one or the other. This. Should not run both as no telling what you might end up with. I personally only use the Oculus Tray Tool for my SS settings, figure since I have Rift might be best to use the Oculus software to set this. But definitely only use one or the other.
chiliwili69 Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 As said, use one or the other. More explanations here: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/30436-pixel-density-supersampling-steamvr-oculustraytool-and-oculu/ I personally use only SteamVR SS since it gives a better indication of the extra work you are demanding to the GPU. For example, if you use 1.7 in Steam VR it means you are demanding a 70% more load to GPU. if you use 2.0, you are demanding twice load (100% more), if you use 3.0 you demand three times the normal load (200% more). In addition, OTT depends on Oculus Home to be launched, and steamVR not. I have suppresed Oculus Home to be launched thanks to Don (https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/29586-how-prevent-oculus-home-starting-steam-vr-games), so I prefer to have less applications going on while I play BOS, so I can´t use OTT. Also, put Advanced supersampling off in SteamVR.
SCG_Fenris_Wolf Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 I also suppressed Oculus Home in order to get some more fps (just put it into forced administrator mode through the compatibility tab), and I don't start OTT at all. Giving IL-2 "high cpu priority" in OTT actually decreases fps, by the way. Only go with SteamVR's SS setting. Disable Advanced Supersampling Filter, right beneath the SS bar. With a GTX1080ti, you should be able to play on SS2.9 or SS3.2, while your CPU and its DDR3 (1600MHz RAM for this, right?) should allow you to stay on Balanced Graphics settings - if the CPU is overclocked, which I assume. It is true that SSAO and HDR should be off for VR. SSAO gives shadow artifacts/flicker, and HDR introduces a strong haze which makes spotting harder. Make sure AA and Sharpen are turnt off ingame as well. Terrain Sharpen can be active.
dburne Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 I will have to give using Steam VR's settings a try to compare. So if I am running a 1.6 PD in Oculus Tray Tool, about what should I set in Steam VR settings to give app the same ?

This evening I'm doing to do as dburne and test out using only steamVR

dburne Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 I suppressed OH too but OTT still seems to work just fine. Setting BoS to high priority didn't seem to change anything for me one way or the other. I noticed at least on my end, with OH not running my profile settings in Oculus Tray Tool would not apply.
chiliwili69 Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 I also suppressed Oculus Home in order to get some more fps I recently run some tests with the VR benchmark, didnot report it, to compare performance using OH and OTT versus SteamVR using SS. No impact in fps. So if I am running a 1.6 PD in Oculus Tray Tool, about what should I set in Steam VR settings to give app the same ? Easy. 1.6x1.6 is 2.56 So, use 2.5 or 2.6
dburne Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 Easy. 1.6x1.6 is 2.56 So, use 2.5 or 2.6 Ok thanks, will give that a try and see if there is any noticeable difference.
SCG_Fenris_Wolf Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 The difference comes to light in having slightly better fps, because you neither start OTT nor OH (the latter being disabled as instructed, so it doesn't start automatically if you start SteamVR). The quality is precisely the same.
dburne Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 I had run BoS without Oculus Home some time ago and can not say I saw any difference, has been a while though and I had not tried setting SS in Steam VR.
AcesHigh Posted August 31, 2017 Author Posted August 31, 2017 (edited) Everyone thanks for the replies, answered all my question perfectly, special thanks to JG51_Fenris_Wolf for the detailed answer. Edited August 31, 2017 by AcesHigh 1

Maybe that's where the overhead starts becoming quite slim, no idea. It was 2-3fps, 4 tests, 2 each with and without. @AcesHigh
SYN_Mike77 Posted December 30, 2017 Posted December 30, 2017 I've been playing around with the OTT and one thing I noticed when I go to add profiles and check my IL2 profiles there is a cell that regulates CPU usage. The values that can be selected are CPU normal; CPU above average priority: and CPU High Priority. Does anyone know what these settings do?

I have never tried any of the other, but have seen reports by some over on the Oculus forums that stated it hurt them in the performance department when trying the high priority. Course one can always give it a try and see what they think.
