HagarTheHorrible Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 (edited) Why didn't the Germans make more use of rockets for their ground pounders ? The Russians certainly used them and the Tiffy is positively bare without them. I've heard them being described as something akin to the broadside from a battleship so why weren't aircraft like the Hs 129 equipped with them ? My interest was piqued by reports of the varied results when using the 101 and 103. Edited August 30, 2017 by HagarTheHorrible

Finkeren Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 The Germans were not alone in being late to adopt airborne rockets. Pretty much only the Soviet Union started the war with a functioning weapon system of this kind. Everyone else had to catch up, and the Germans weren't in a position to suddenly start development of a dedicated air-to-surface rocket weapon and had to make do with an adaptation of the Wehrmacht's Nebelwerfer.

A full salvo of 8 x 60 pound [ RP-3 ] air to ground rockets fired by a Hawker Typhoon was said to be equivalent of a broadside from a 6 inch Light Cruiser, they were originally meant as anti shipping rockets but put to great effect against ground targets especially by the taxi rank Typhoons over Normandy. Gambit21 Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 Looking forward to getting Tiny Tims back. I used to love firing those from the Corsair back in the old sim.
