DDoutel Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 (edited) On initial startup of the game, the first time it's run, I'm finding that on Windows 10 Pro, running an AMD R9 390 card with the latest driver, the game starts in windowed mode. On setting the resolution to 1920x1080 full screen and restarting the game, it hangs at the initial splash screen. If I change the resolution to 2560x1440 manually in startup.cfg, the native resolution of the monitor, the game starts up ok. What this means is that I can only play in 2560x1440 where dot spotting is much more difficult, rather than 1920x1080 where dot spotting is considerably easier. It should be noted that no other game I've had on this system over the last two years has exhibited this problem. So to sum up, the game does not correctly switch resolutions from the desktop native resolution to the selected resolution on startup. Anyone else seen this behavior? Thanks! DDoutel Posted September 3, 2017 Author Posted September 3, 2017 Seriously, someone must have run across this; I actually have to switch the monitor resolution before entering the game manually; This just isn't right. This is the only game I've seen where it couldn't start up in a different resolution than the desktop!
JimTM Posted September 3, 2017 Posted September 3, 2017 Do you have a [KEY = updater] section in your startup.cfg? I had a similar problem to yours with different resolutions being selected and the launcher crashing. I found out that somehow my startup.cfg was corrupted. Here's the fix that I used.

There are a number of items missing from that section; I'll give your tip a try! BTW, what are permissible comment markers in this file? I'd like to comment out the old section before putting in the new one, just so i don't lose it entirely. Thanks, Jim!
DDoutel Posted September 3, 2017 Author Posted September 3, 2017 Regretfully, Jim's tip didn't help. Still locking up at the splash if the game resolution doesn't match the desktop at startup. Have to kill it with the Task Manager.
DDoutel Posted September 5, 2017 Author Posted September 5, 2017 Is anyone else here running the simulation at a different resolution than that of the Windows desktop? I've been in touch with "support", and the suggestion they gave me was "try disabling fullscreen". This doesn't solve it, since the sim is not changing to its' selected resolution if it isn't the same as the deskop! My Desktop is running at 2560x1440, and I want to run the game at 1920x1080, so dots at distance aren't so small. Disabling fullscreen only means that with game resolution set to 1920x1080, it comes up in a window half the size of my desktop, instead of changing the monitor's resolution before starting the game, and restoring it after exiting. A little help here, please!
DDoutel Posted September 16, 2017 Author Posted September 16, 2017 (edited) Will someone with a monitor whose native resolution at the desktop is 2560x1440 please try this? 1. Start the game. 2. Set game resolution to 1920x1080. 3. Exit the game. 4. Restart the game. Does the game switch the resolution to 1920x1080 on start up, or does it hang at the splash screen? Thanks.
