pilotpierre Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 That the Kuban map in the original IL2 was great, but - I only got a 3 quick flights in the HS 129 on the Kuban map before I had to leave to baby sit some grandkids and was most impressed. The map is superb and the 129 is a delight to fly. I haven't had a Chance to fly any of the others yet but the rudder response and weighty sensation of this plane is now much more aligned with flying a real aircraft. I foresee many hours touring the Kuban Map in the 129 in the coming weeks. Devs and that Jason fellow, you have outdone yourselves. I have been flying IL2 since it hit the streets all those years ago and although interest has waned briefly several times I feel as excited now as I did way back in (was it really) 2001? 7
BOO Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 The map and effects are a huge step. I was as enthralled by the breaking waves on the shoreline and the scenery in the plains as I was by the smoke of the guns in my first ever flight in the original. I am slightly less enthralled by the stuttery cloud changes and the amount of "popping in" in the map, especially in the mountains. That said, this is a combat sim and I doubt ill even notice them once its "game on". To me then, the new map only exceeds my already high expectations of the devs by a factor of about 10! 1
chris455 Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 For me, it's bittersweet. Possibly the most beautiful map I have ever flown over, but now, I don't even want to look at the Normandy map in the "other" sim.......... 2

Sounds like that “Spirit of ‘46” Jason wrote about. 1
unreasonable Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 I agree with OP: as someone who has gone through the whole IL-2 saga the new release has revived my interest: not just the map, but the FM and other tweaks, and especially the fact that the team is clearly listening to the feedback and acting on it as well as taking it's own initiatives. This is why the best CFSs - which this now is IMHO - are more than just games, they become an absorbing hobby. Pedant alert - the only minor criticism I have of the map is that I wish someone had the time (and I know they do not) to go over the map getting rid of most of the colour matches between fields where they have a road or stream overlay. As of now I cannot help but notice the dedication of the farmers in making sure that the parts of fields bisected by streams or roads have the same crops......
Trooper117 Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 (edited) Took a long flight in the P-40 all the way to Krasnodar from Sochi... it was a pleasure to take the time to enjoy the map, scenery and the new aircraft fm. I'm another that has had the old IL2 from the start, bought everything available, and am doing so with the new game too. With Jason's news of a Po-2, Li-2, FW 189, La5 fn, 109 G-6, coming at some stage if all goes right, the future is looking good for the WWII aviation enthusiast. Oh, I forgot to add, the Storch got a mention as well... Edited September 1, 2017 by Trooper117 1
LLv24_SukkaVR Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 Extremely beautiful map. Its nice to have some mountains and sea after flat steppes of Moscow and Stalingrad. Cant wait to try it in MP tomorrow!
