So, Arthur, how are you?

In other news the finest European competition is today. CSKA host Lyon, both sides have more injuries than they can afford to have, hard game ahead.

Posted (edited)

There are some great young players in Lyon : Aouar, NDombele and Fekir.

I've seen a banner of CSKA ultras. I thought they wrote something with Armenia... Is it true or I am wrong ?

EDIT > 1z5rk94.png

Here is a vid of an OL training, it is hot !

Otherwise I'm a little disgusted for PSG, but at least the fans have made their match!  The Parc des Princes is reborn little by little and it is for me the most important.

Sad.:(

Still, plenty of great european football still to come:).

I wonder if Pep's  Man City can do it this year?  As PSG have found out, money can only get you so far.....

Barca, ManU, Bayern, Juve do not pay their players with peanuts either. Nothing new with PSG...

Well done CSKA !

Just to say these people are likely to sing next year in the third French league and it makes me sick! Tout fout le camp !!

I must say, my heart was in my mouth after Lyon made it 3-2, but it worked out well in the end. Now off to London to play Arsenal...

Two great games.

With the early goal by MCI I thought Liv would be in for a rough time but Liv managed to hold on and win the game and the leg with the help of the officiating.

Roma defeats Barca 3-0 and win on away goals the leg.

What can I say? Liverpool through and through! 5-1 on aggregate, hard luck Pep...

Yeah but all OUR goals were without issue though. City's 'second' was a definite goal but hey, these things happen. I wouldn't say we 'held on' though, we won both games didn't we?

Posted

Liv certainly 'held on' in the 1st half. It would have been very interesting in the 2cd if MCI had the goals counted in the 1st. Anyways, was cheering for Liverpool.

Wow!  They've gotta be seen as contenders now.  Do you think they can do it.........again:)

I'm thoroughly impressed by Roma. That was a reaction to behold! Manchester City showed what everyone knew from last season but had forgotten until these quarter-finals came along: a lack of mental strength. Thankfully for Guardiola and co. they've done well to secure a safe lead so whatever happens from here on won't change much in the league.

Now that was a game, Juv vs Madrid in Madrid. To bad Ronaldo scored on a penalty kick in the last seconds.

LFC - Fingers crossed!

Great game absolutely ruined by a ludicrous penalty decision.  :(

Would you say the same if the penalty was for Juventus?

Anyway the Champion League final will be,

winner of  Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid and Liverpool vs AS Roma.

Europa League,

winner  of Marseille  vs Salzburg and Arsenal  vs Atlético Madrid

Hell yes!  I have no irons in this fire.  My team are out.

I simply object to the result of this match being determined by a faulty refereeing decision.

Also, one has to be quite the asshole to send off one of the biggest legends for a few words, just after making the game his last in CL :(

To be fair, do you know ANYONE who would do the job of refereeing a match like this? Someone's gotta do it and they are just one in number so I say fair play to them for even thinking of it in the first place but come on, there's GOT to be some sort of arbiter other than the single ref and his 'assistants'? I know VAR is stuttering along at the moment but surely with all the money involved it can't be THAT difficult to sort something out that suits the majority of folk???

Posted

I think VAR is pretty much a step in the right direction. I've been watching some Serie A games this season (as well as in previous seasons) and i have to say it's overall better now with the video assistance. There are drawbacks but the benefits outweigh them.

As for the referees, yes it's a hard job, but i would say it's harder in lower levels of football where, while there are fewer people boo-ing, it can be actually uncomfortable or dangerous for the ref. On higher levels it seems like some of them enjoy being in the focus after a bad decision .

Ha! Ha! Yeah. Just go and watch parents going MAD at Refs at an under 10's match!! I wouldn't do that job for ANY amount of money, never. They'd need protection money and bodyguards!!!:o:

Not just soccer refs but any refs in kids sports.

And just like that, uncle Arséne announced his departure. It's hard to imagine what will be of Arsenal without him.

Arsenal? Sorry, that's definitely offtopic  (said the Milan fan).

Anyway, it looks like they might win something in the next years .

What a game!!! Looked like Roma would be all over Liverpool and then Liverpool took over running the score up to 5-0. Roma comes back and scores 2 goals.

Can Roma pull off another miracle in Rome?

They say lightning doesn't strike twice in the same spot, but then Roma did to Barcelona exactly what Barcelona did to PSG last year.

Roma set themselves up for failure today, playing a high line with slow defenders against fast attackers. Liverpool, in traditional fashion, showed they have a hard time focusing for a full 90 minutes against strong opposition, and the game could have ended 5-3 or even 5-4 if luck had gone the Italians' way. All things considered Liverpool are almost certain to go through, but if there's a team that can mess this up it's Liverpool, so long as Roma bring out the right mix of heart and brain.

I'm more excited for Madrid vs. Bayern though, that'll be a great game.

The penalty WAS a bit harsh though, eh?

A bit dull, it was. Maybe the next game will be better.

Mixing Politics and sports is not a good idea ....

FC Barcelona has to become just a football club again and stop all the political childish shows before and during the games. IMHO well-deserved defeat.

The English and Germans never give up, stiff upper lip!!!

Spurs need to be more aggressive....??

Only one - nil down at half-time.   Kane and Deli Ali need to come off though.

If they loose I apparently have the choice of either wearing or eating my eldest son's Liverpool shirt!:(

Second half, Kane and Ali back on pitch.  Oh well, what do I know.....

Now where's that dental floss?

As a football fan liverpool deserved something for their incredible season. But as a spurs fan I'm gutted.
