curiousGamblerr Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 (edited) Goofing off with Hotspur and Haash in another thread got me thinking- this community is comprised of people from all over the world. So, I bet a bunch of you watch soccer/football/Fußball/fútbol/whatever you call it- Who do you support, particularly in UCL this year? Just curious (gambler) to learn a bit more about the community, and also I just love me some quality soccer. I'm sure my avatar makes my allegiances obvious Edited August 30, 2017 by 19//curiousGamblerr
ZachariasX Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 For me it is easy. I just don't support the UEFA. Just greedy criminals. No sports. 1
curiousGamblerr Posted August 30, 2017 Author Posted August 30, 2017 Ok well that's fair I guess... the greed starts at the top with FIFA. But BVB and a handful of friends are the best things I brought home from my time in Germany years ago so I can't help but watch.
ZachariasX Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 I was being slightly coarse I guess. I do like a good game. And the teams occasionally deliver. But I am not attached to any them in particular. And I wouldn't know why for most UEFA league teams. For instance, there is nothing 'Parisian' about PSG. They have a stadium nearby, but they might as well train on the moon. Or Katar. Being Swiss, there is only one team that has a sort of attachment to the local people such as BVB might have, and this would be FCB, Basel. Also our only regular UEFA contender. But in other places, people might like soccer as well, but it's more like "22 guys try to get their ankle twisted with the help of one ball". It is ok to watch in some instances (provided there is beer and Bratwurst, else it is worlds worst punishment to last theough 90 minutes), but them not being able to safely receive a pass even if their life depended on it is no reason for some hooligans to stay away from those matches. So there is really little incentive to go to and see a match.
DD_Arthur Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 Come on you Spurs!! For sentimental reasons I'd also like to see Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp do well but I wonder if anyone can stop the Real Madrid juggernaut this year?

I think you don't know PSG; Rabiot, Kimpembe, Areola, Mbappé are Parisians since their childhood > 4/11 ! If it is not enough, there are some Parisans here > Le Parc des Princes is not a stadium but a monument !! Edited September 5, 2017 by PatCartier
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 ЦСКА! Four games, four wins, no goals conceded, looking good so far. Or group also has Manchester United, Benfica and Basel which I think is doable. The club needs to aim for that qualification, but should they make it third that's OK too. Also, Golovin > Pulisic.
Blooddawn1942 Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 For me it is easy. I just don't support the UEFA. Just greedy criminals. No sports. Panem et Circenses... Not my cup of tea. Whenever it comes to UEFA, IOC and FIFA I see the image of greedy reptiles in fine dress in my imagination. It makes me feel sick.

But Pulisic is a young Messi, Lucas, everyone says so! I would love to see ManU knocked out in group. Zlatan and that whole club are some of my least favorites. I was actually happy when he transferred there to consolidate some of my least favorite eggs were in one basket. Now if only Ribery could head over there...
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 Can't promise but I think we'll do a decent job. The pastéis de nata crowd (Benfica) will need to step up too, but seeing Mourinho forced into the Europa League again would be joyful
DD_Arthur Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 but seeing Mourinho forced into the Europa League again would be joyful Unlikely. I think they'll win the Premiership this year. They do look good
SYN_Haashashin Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 Hey...BvB all the way man!! Even been Spanish, I do no support Madrid or Barcelona at all, I really dont care what they do in the UCL. We do have a team in La Liga, U.D. Las Palmas: http://www.udlaspalmas.es/ so I support my home land (island) team. For UCL and Bundesliga I support BvB. I lived in Dortmund in the past and never experience a football game atmosphere like Westfallenhallen Stadion (AkA Signa Iduna Park). I hope to hear this again this year and at Munich none the less...difficult but one can hope
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 Unlikely. I think they'll win the Premiership this year. They do look good Somehow I can't see it just yet. Though their squad is decide better than last season, it doesn't scream WINNER so to say. Gut feeling I suppose, but either way I hope we can hold them off over both legs and finally get to the knockout stages again.

I was worried during the preseason but oh boy have we gotten off to a good start... Forget Whousame Dumbaby, Barca can have him, if the guys keep this up we'll certainly be challenging Bayern this year. Of course, that's very wishful thinking. With such a young, often injury prone squad, once we're playing three competitions things will be a lot more difficult. But here's hoping man, HEJA BVB! I'm planning to go to Europe in the Spring and a game in the Westfalenstadion is at the top of the list. I only had a chance to watch it on Sky or whatever when I was in Bocholt as an exchange student back in 2010 (Bocholt is like 30km north of Dortmund on the Netherlands border). And as for our group, I was just joking with Hotspur about knocking out the Spurs. My ideal would be Dortmund #1 and Spurs #2 in our group I think. Also, Come on you Spurs!! For sentimental reasons I'd also like to see Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp do well but I wonder if anyone can stop the Real Madrid juggernaut this year? Definitely agree about Kloppo's Liverpool, but I don't want to face them again. That 4-3 loss in the last few minutes of the second leg two years ago still hurts.
SYN_Haashashin Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 I was in Bocholt as an exchange student back in 2010 (Bocholt is like 30km north of Dortmund on the Netherlands border). You were there the same year as me!! I was at ISM Dortmund studying International business Management. And as for our group, I was just joking with Hotspur about knocking out the Spurs. My ideal would be Dortmund #1 and Spurs #2 in our group I think. Agree, Madrid out Also hope Kloppo have a good year at Liverpool of course.
Rolling_Thunder Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 Life long Spurs fan, I will be hopeful but I'm a realist. At least Arsenal aren't in it.
curiousGamblerr Posted August 30, 2017 Author Posted August 30, 2017 You were there the same year as me!! I was at ISM Dortmund studying International business Management. Wow, small world! Life long Spurs fan, I will be hopeful but I'm a realist. At least Arsenal aren't in it. BVB-Spurs alliance! You can borrow Auba from time to time if we can borrow a left back
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 We're going to win this. 0 incoming transfers since the summer of 2016, we got this in the bag. F*** me, honestly, this hurts.
MiloMorai Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 In other footie news looks like the Netherlands won't make it to the world Championship in Russia next year. (4th in Group A)
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 It's a huge problem in almost all countries, sadly, and one that through the action of a hundred odd idiots can spoil the fun for the other 20,000 inside the stadium. That outrageous display by German fans in Prague highlights this. 1
J2_Steve Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 Lifelong Millwall supporter here, wasn't sure whether to post given that the thread is about quality football and the Champions league. Neither of which apply to my beloved club
curiousGamblerr Posted September 4, 2017 Author Posted September 4, 2017 Lifelong Millwall supporter here, wasn't sure whether to post given that the thread is about quality football and the Champions league. Neither of which apply to my beloved club Aww glad you did tho man. It's easy to be a fan of a Champions league club, takes much more dedication to stick with the underdog! to that
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 Lower league football's got more pashun and less drama though, there is merit to that. How did the whole stadium affair end for you lads?
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 I'm fortunate in that sense - Russian football is regularly streamed live on YouTube (the legality of it is questionable but that's someone else's problem) and miraculously Brazilian football air lives on Portuguese TV so when it's down time from daily stuff it's easy to tune in.
J2_Steve Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 Lower league football's got more pashun and less drama though, there is merit to that. How did the whole stadium affair end for you lads? Bit controversial in the end. Think some brown envelopes where being passed around filled with cash. Under a bit of scrutiny the whole thing fell apart and we are safe for now.
DD_Arthur Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 Lifelong Millwall supporter here, Quick! Call the Police!!
J2_Steve Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 Quick! Call the Police!! No one likes us, we dont care
PatCartier Posted September 12, 2017 Posted September 12, 2017 Girls, girls, girls, I'm looking for the good time
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted September 12, 2017 Posted September 12, 2017 0-0 in the first half of Benfica vs CSKA.
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted September 12, 2017 Posted September 12, 2017 I may or may not have had a drink or ten. This was a nice day.
DD_Arthur Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 Tonight, at Wembley, we put Borussia Dortmund to the sword Or we loose one - nil
SYN_Haashashin Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 Dont know what will happen...but Im sure we will put up a good show as we allways do when in London (or everywhere)
